On Thursday, November 14, we had the pleasure of attending the Kansas City Area Development Council’s (KCADC’s) Annual Meeting to celebrate the KC region’s remarkable achievements over the past year and explore the exciting opportunities that lie ahead for our city. KCADC shared impressive updates on corporate attraction successes and transformative community projects driving economic progress. It’s truly an exciting time to be in Kansas City, and we’re proud to be part of this growing community of innovators! #AbilityKC

I’ve seen firsthand how our society has shifted from a "we" mentality to a "me" mentality, and it’s troubling. In national and state politics, division seems to drive success. But at the local level, it’s clear that collaboration is the only path forward. Every project we undertook in Kansas City—from infrastructure improvements to education initiatives—required diverse coalitions of people willing to work together for the greater good. In a fast-paced, results-now world, it’s easy to lose sight of the long game. But in local government, we rise or fall together. When we invest in each other, we all benefit. Do you think our society can return to more of a "we" mentality? How can we encourage that shift?

Love the commitment to action. First: listen to the perspectives and experiences of the people you’re designing for. Next: commit real resources to test those ideas. Future: scale up what works.
High impact collaborative executive public sector leader with proven track record of leading large scale change within complex systems in collaboration with our community partners and residents.
Amazing things start to happen when young people voices and needs are centered in creating programs that are aimed at supporting them. Kudos to ECMC Group, GREATER MSP Partnership and others for creating a space to hear youth and then taking ideas to action. This Co-Lab is one of the strategies that is being tested. I am grateful to serve as an advisor to the work and increase connections in our community. And I am thrilled that City of Saint Paul and Ramsey County is home to this pilot!

Welcome to the Built Environment Schools Trust. We are thrilled to announce that the CSTT is transforming in to the Built Environment Schools Trust. For nearly 40 years, we've been dedicated to supporting young people from disadvantaged backgrounds in surveying careers. Today, we're expanding our mission to support all young individuals across the entire built environment sector, with a continued focus on those from underrepresented backgrounds. Our mission remains clear: to create a pipeline of diverse talent through our school outreach, promote sector-wide collaboration, and provide support for individuals from underrepresented backgrounds who may encounter barriers when entering the sector. Follow us on LinkedIn and visit www.beschoolstrust.org to learn more about our journey and initiatives!

As we approach the end of the year, we’re highlighting our most popular pieces of content on FSG.org from 2024 👇 #5 is from our #InclusiveDemocracy series. In this piece, FSG CEO John Harper writes on why inclusive civic infrastructure is essential to advancing an inclusive, multiracial democracy. Questions for reflection: ✨Where does this infrastructure exist in your local community and what are you doing to foster it? ✨How can building, sustaining and engaging these tables be part of our civic duty? ✨Where are there opportunities to make our existing collaborative efforts more inclusive? We couldn’t be more proud of the YWCA Associations across the country that are participating in YWCA USA's EMPOWERMENT THROUGH ENTERPRISE Learning Lab series! Since launching in August, Executive Directors / CEO’s, Board, and Staff members from a number of local associations have been fully engaged in exploring possibilities to launch or grow entrepreneurial ventures aimed at boosting earned revenue and mission impact. Not only are these teams learning new ways of thinking AND doing by participating in a series of interactive learning sessions held monthly through November...but many of them are also meeting 1:1 with the consultants from No Margin, No Mission to strategize, discuss, brainstorm, and take action to advance their mission-aligned enterprises. Stay tuned for more about this valuable capacity building initiative in the coming weeks and months!
