Meeting professionals! Please remember that making your event inclusive should include options for sober attendees. Which doesn’t just mean a zero proof bar with zero proof spirits….because having something that “tastes like the real thing” can actually be a trigger for someone newly sober. Coach the bartenders to make sure they pay attention to those asking for virgin or alcohol free versions of drinks. I once asked for a virgin mojito and it was definitely not virgin. Fortunately, I work a strong program of recovery so it didn’t cause me to stumble. Tonight as I celebrated 17 years sober, I went to an industry happy hour and enjoyed my usual ginger beer (af) on the rocks. I work a program so being around alcohol doesnt bother me. But that wasn’t always the case. Don’t pressure people to go to the reception or stay for “one more.” You don’t know if they are struggling. And frankly, it’s none of your business why Sally isn’t drinking anymore so don’t call it out. Most of all, remember us when you’re planning your parties. Thank you on behalf of the recovery community everywhere. Seventeen years. Including the pandemic. One day at a time.

Book👉 https://bit.ly/3UeK9yP 📆 1pm to 3pm, Friday 28 June 📍Dunoon Library, The Queen's Hall AN ENTERPRISING HISTORY In the 1880s, the enterprising Stirling family set up George Stirling’s Aerated Waters. The soft drinks factory was located behind the family’s pharmacy shop, just off Dunoon’s high street. The factory, which survived World War II, later became part of the Glasgow-based Dunn family’s food and drink manufacturing business. The factory produced high-quality carbonated drinks for locals and visitors to enjoy from the same building until the mid-1970s. WHAT TO EXPECT 👉 Hear stories about the people involved in setting up the factory. 👉 Share your memories of the factory and drinking pop in Dunoon. 👉 Learn about this area’s connection to sugar, a core ingredient in soft drinks. 👉 Have a look at old George Stirling refill bottles and artefacts associated with the factory. 👉 Taste and smell some of the ingredients that we’re using in our Dunoon Goes POP recipes. 👉 Learn about how to use the library to conduct further research with the help of library supervisor Caroline Davidson and contribute to the creation of a mini exhibition at the Library about this heritage. Dunoon Goes POP is a heritage-inspired soft drinks enterprise based at the POP shop in Dunoon. We want to bring soft drinks production back to Dunoon in a way that minimises our impact on the planet and maximises our positive impact on the community. Thanks to National Lottery players, we have funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund to help us work towards a socially enterprising approach to local soft drinks production.  This project is also supported by Dunoon Community Development Trust and Grow Food, Grow Dunoon.
