Being a lecturer, a facilitator, a nurturer, a coach, a shoulder to cry on...
What is expected from 1-to-1 English teachers today?
I've seen a lot of changes happening since my days in school. I do believe the figure of the older, stern tutor coming to lecture you with their pile of yellowish notes has been slowly disappearing; and I do think it's for the best.
Students of today need highly qualified, adaptable professionals who can bring them more than a youtube channel or an instagram account. I often tell my clients I'm more of a guide and facilitator: I can help them identify their needs, I can support them in their quest, I can show them where the clues are located... but I'm not here to give them the right answer or convince them there's only one way of achieving fluency.
Bringing the human touch to class isn't just about grammar or "being right," it's about supporting our learners in building up self-confidence and offering them a safe, non-judgemental space where they can practice in a controlled way. It's about helping students embrace mistakes and resist frustration, and inviting them to talk about the topics that really matter to them. It's about listening to their fears and ambitions, and supporting them to the best of our abilities.

7moI do hope that your hard work gets duly rewarded someday soon. ✅🎈🎈❤️ I passionately love the Yoruba Language! You should try to position well to attract foreign contracts, please. There are tons of Yoruba children born abroad and with serious issues knowing the language. One or two contracts with their parents and you are smiling dollars while sharing lifetime value.. 🌹💖 Thumbs up, ma'am Bola Ara 👍👍
