It all comes down to money. What are the growing and processing costs? What is a viable selling price? Which species are easiest to grow at sea, have the highest biomass yield and also the lowest processing costs? Working backwards from a commercially viable selling price is essential if seaweed is to establish itself in the wider feed or food market. Maybe processing doesn't need be or can't afford to be too complicated or expensive? Rather than simply focussing on the total protein content, and in order to be competitive and to offer a distinct nutritional advantage, it is also essential to understand and promote the health benefits of functional seaweed carbohydrates as well.

Interesting article that is relevant to Agcore Foods because it explores innovative approaches to sustainable protein sources, such as microalgae and insect meal, which align with our focus on eco-friendly and nutritionally rich pet food formulas. Agcore grows microalgae and blends in insect meal with other ingredients to make aquatic food. The use of insect frass as a nutrient for cultivating microalgae highlights a practical application that could enhance the sustainability and cost-effectiveness of our Spirulina and Chlorella production. Additionally, the study underscores the importance of circular economy principles in maximizing resource efficiency, which resonates with our commitment to minimizing environmental impact in our operations. #Spirulina #Chlorella #Insect Meal #Agcore #aquaticfoods 🐠 🐟 #aquatic#blueeconomyhttps://lnkd.in/eKd7HGKn

Something to cheer about... 🍺 Brewers' Spent Grain (BSG), the solid residue from malted barley after beer brewing, accounts for approximately 85% of the total waste from beer production, with around 36.4 million tons generated annually worldwide (that's a lot of beer consumption). 🍺 BSG currently has limited use in animal feed and compost applications, with a significant portion being landfilled, contributing to GHG emissions and climate change. And, of course, the loss of valuable material resources. 🍺 Scientists at Nanyang Technological Institute (NTU) in Singapore have developed an innovative method to extract valuable proteins, fit for human consumption, from brewery wastes for beneficial use in plant-based foods and dietary supplements. #climatechange #circulareconomy #brewery #waste #proteins

HOW TO BECOME A SUPER EARTH-SAVER 🌱 🌍 Watch yesterday’s food waste be reduced by 80-95% into organic, highly potent fertilizer, great for growing organic food. We also make small pellets, nutrition sticks and growing pots from the fertilizer. The nutrition stick is put into a plant or a flower. In contact with water it slowly releases nutrition onto the plant. The pots are made of 80% paper and 20% compost mass. That way the fertilizer is inside the pot, feeding the roots of the plant from the pot itself. When the seed has become a plant, the whole pot is put into the soil. The process works quickly. Within only 24 hours you have reduced the food waste by around 90% and actually become a SUPER EARTH-SAVER! #Solserv #Recycling #Fromtabletoearth #Reusable #Compostmachine #PowerBio

#YeastExtract is a powerhouse of #Umami flavour, and it’s good for our planet too. The by-products of other food manufacturing processes are used to create yeast extract, such as molasses from sugar production or brewer’s yeast from beer-making. In giving them a new life, we avoid waste and ensure an efficient use of resources. 🔃 🌿 And it doesn’t end there: the by-product of yeast extract production can be used to make animal feed more nutritious – and can even be used as a natural fertiliser. 🌱 Learn more on our website: https://lnkd.in/dZEjx-tU #CircularEconomy #NoWaste
