Today is the last day of the #16DaysinWA campaign. So many people I speak to do not know how common partner violence and abuse is in Australia. I've had so many conversations where people say the issue is 'important' but overhyped...they are shocked at the statistics that over 1 in 4 women (27%) have experienced violence or abuse by a cohabiting partner since the age of 15, including 1 in 6 (17%) who experienced physical or sexual violence, 1 in 4 (23%) who experienced emotional abuse and 1 in 6 (16%) who experienced economic abuse. This means that everyone knows someone who has experienced this violence. It might be your sister, mother, cousin, aunty or friend. These experiences can be debilitating, isolating and so lonely. In keeping with the theme of this year there are so many things you can do to #playyourpart whether that is providing support for someone in need or better educate yourself about the issue and have conversations with others. This year the State Library curated a recommended reading list (https://lnkd.in/gWF7JzYR). Other Australian books I have found valuable on the topic include: - See What You Made Me Do - Jess Hill - The Mother Wound - Amani Haydar - Eggshell Skull - Bri Lee

One study found that children exposed to violence in the home were 15 times more likely to be physically and/or sexually assaulted than the national average. Using statistics we can show how important it is to speak up and speak out to save women and children. #GFWC #GFWCNC #GFWCNCJointheRhythm #GFWCNCStopDomesticViolence #SpeakUpAndSpeakOut

❓ Did you know? Women are more likely to experience violence by someone they know. Men are more likely to experience violence from a stranger. Women, statistically, experience high rates of domestic, family, and sexual violence. Whereas men experience high rates of acts of violence in the community and public areas by strangers. Using violence is unacceptable and is always a choice. We know that when people stop using violence communities and families are safer. We must, as a community, hold people who use violence to account in order to work towards a world without violence. #EndViolence #EndDV #CallOutAbuse

Follow along with our social media channels and each day next week we will be sharing a post to help educate our network on the impact of violence against women and how we can, together, break the cycle. . . . #preventionofviolenceagainstwomenweek . . . . #preventionofviolenceagainstwomenweek

In commemoration of the fight against gender-based violence, we stand united in raising awareness about the harsh realities that many women face every day. It is alarming to know that 1 in 3 women experience physical or sexual abuse in their lifetime. This statistic is not just a number—it represents the pain and suffering of real individuals. We must all come together to challenge and change the systems that enable such violence. Let us speak out, support survivors, and work towards creating a world where every woman can live free from violence and fear. Gender-based violence has no place in our society—let’s take action now. #EndGBV #StandAgainstViolence #EmpowerWomen #EDI

🚨Distressing levels of sexual violence against girls and young women shown in new study. In many cases, these violence was perpetrated by men known to the victims, such as friends and family members. 📌We need urgent government action to address the epidemic of VAW, including: 👉Increase multi-annual funding to frontline services 👉Initiatives to tackle misogyny and violence against women 👉Embed a survivor-based approach across the justice system #EndVAW #VAW https://lght.ly/pm73g9m
