The Nintendo DS was released 20 years ago today! Did you know that each day 13% of men and 6% of women play digital games in Aus? Now go check on your Nintendogs 🦮

I love this post as it's a firm reminder that gaming is truly a global market and there is (or outta be) something for everyone. I also agree that an inordinate of mind share is devoted to a rather noisy gatekeeper-y cohort.
Some ideas on how to address this:
1. Actively amplify voices that highlight the imbalance that exists today.
2. Companies should walk the talk and truly support diversity in hiring. This means going out of their way to foster truly inclusive work environments that broaden everyone's perspectives.
3. Call people out on their BS.
Having more diverse viewpoints can only benefit the industry by offering a wider variety of interactive experiences that reach a larger total audience.
What other things could be done to change the space for the better?
Tired of all the dumb "hot takes" about games failing because they don't cater exclusively to cis/het white dudes.
Here are some stats gross gamer bros don't want to hear:
Only 53% of video game players identify as male
46% identify as female and about 1% identify as neither
The adorable (girlie) pet game "Adopt Me" has had more peak concurrent players than Elden Ring, CoD, or CS:GO.
More women than men own a Nintendo Switch.
The generation with the highest percentage of video game players (79%) is Gen Alpha (5-10yr olds). Given that 59% of moms report purchasing a game in the past 6mos and women are the number 1 purchaser of household electronics, these kids are most likely playing games bought by their MOMS on devices bought by their MOMS.
The highest‑grossing video game is "Dungeon Fighter Online". DFO has grossed $22 BILLION worldwide and is mostly played in Asia, not countries dominated by Caucasians.

Reposting... for being able to comment without having to connect...
Tired of blaming game, movie or media in general failing because of non acceptance of their 'woke' side! That MIGHT be one of the reasons, but definitely not THE reason.
Concord came out at a 40$ price against monsters like Overwatch 2 and Fortnite which are free! And apparently it was just not good as a game overall...
Same can be said of majority of media failing not because of not having CIS/Whites, but because of just not being good.
Also, let's stop spreading false stats, or showing stats out of context!
46% of game players are female? Sure, but on mobile!
And btw, where's the support from that 47% (including non identifiers)? If all of those had anything to say (with their wallets, NOT on socials!!!) the afore mentioned failing titles would not be such!
Medias fail because of being subpar products, NOT because of supposed ideologies being shown.
This is the not so dumb "hot take" being spread around.
Stop making it political!

Interesting shift in the gaming world! 🎮 A recent study reveals that nearly half (47%) of Nintendo Switch players in the UK are now women – almost doubling over the past five years! 📈
What do you think has led to this rise in female gamers on the Switch? Is it specific games, accessibility, or something else? Share your thoughts!

"Anyone can play..."
I heard this phrase earlier today, and it keeps rolling around in my brain. It reminds me of a favorite character, Remy, from the Disney movie Ratatouille. Remy was constantly reminded by the ghost of the famous Chef Gusteau, "Anyone can cook!"
Play is for everyone, and everyone can play. Or at least, that is what we should strive for in the games industry industry. There are plenty of AAA games being built by massive teams for discrete audiences, and that's fine. But that's not what we're all about! Simply Sweet Games is building beautiful and accessible games that will appeal to a diverse range of audiences. We strive to be a brand readily associated with games that anyone can play, games that are loved, and games everyone wants to play!
Nintendo has been giving us this same message for over 30 years. 💜 Super Mario Galaxy was designed for the Nintendo DS handheld and the Wii console with the explicit intent that anyone ages 5 to 95 should be able to easily pick it up and play the game. They clearly succeeded with a brand that continues to resonate and endure.
Gone are the days when we should be defining a gamer as an 18-35 year old male. Games are for everyone, and play is for everyone. It's time to have some fun and start making games for everyone!
