Artificial Intelligence is transforming many aspects of our lives, including law enforcement. 🚓🤖 While AI has the potential to enhance public safety, it also brings a host of ethical and social concerns that we need to address carefully. As AI systems are integrated into policing, we must be vigilant about issues like bias, transparency, and privacy. The data driving these systems can reflect and perpetuate existing biases, affecting fairness and trust in the justice system. 🤔💡 Moreover, the opacity of AI algorithms can make it difficult for the public to understand and trust the decisions being made. Privacy concerns also arise as constant surveillance becomes more prevalent, challenging the balance between safety and personal freedom. 📊🔍 Establishing accountability for AI-driven decisions is crucial to ensure that technology serves justice rather than undermining it. Let's engage in this important conversation and work towards a future where AI enhances safety without compromising our core values. How do you think we can address these challenges? Thank you to everyone who is participating during #AfricaEvidenceWeek2024! The celebrations continue with more #EIDM content. In this video, Pastan Lusiba, a senior research scientist at The Center for Rapid Evidence Synthesis (ACRES) talks about the digital transformation of evidence-informed decison-making (EIDM) and enhancing gender-inclusive approaches to have equitable and health outcomes: https://lnkd.in/deDS7UGF. The advent of digital technologies like machine learning, AI, and chatboxes (e.g., ChatGPT 4.0) has revolutionised access to data and information, enabling faster and more scalable decision-making processes. Since 2020, interest in leveraging these tools for #EIDM has surged, but their application remains limited and often requires substantial user input. To address these challenges, ACRES and its partners Sunbird AI are implementing the Digital Gender – inclusive tools for evidence use project, aimed to design and explore digital gender-inclusive tools that augment EIDM approaches, such as the Rapid Response Service. This project seeks to enhance timeliness, efficiency, and effectiveness for equitable social and health outcomes. Currently, ACREs is in the process of identification/mapping stage, with Sunbird AI to collaboratively map the EIDM process, and benchmarking against the Rapid Response Service process.

An important discussion in the era of human tinkering with #generativeAI. All good recommendations, most notably their combinatorial potential in #technologically-enabled governmental evangelism for adaptive #coalitions of a diversity of #stakeholders capable of reflecting on significant #incidents to implement #risk-based #governance of use by public-private #partnerships.
#Technology unfolds serendipitously both in its benefits and costs. #Regulation to maximize the former and minimize the latter is always complicated by regulatory lag, unforseeability and the side effects of regulation itself. This task harder than ever with #GenAI due to speed of evolution, concentration of resources, the emergent consequences of #algorithms and divergent national policies vs global effects. The BCG Henderson Institute and Simon Levin invited a group of leaders from government, science and business for our annual #Science and #Business dinner to discuss regulatory innovation to deal with these challenges. https://lnkd.in/eg9pHret

The event, titled “Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Humanity,” took place in #NewYork in 2023. In this panel, Yuval Noah Harari and Nicholas Thompson explored the impact of #AI on #society, #democracy, and #individualidentity. The event was organized by Politics and Prose Bookstore, a well-known cultural and intellectual hub dedicated to fostering thoughtful dialogue on critical societal issues. This organization regularly hosts events, discussions, and book talks that engage the public on topics ranging from technology to philosophy. This event provided a critical perspective on the #futureofAI, engaging a wide audience and opening discussions on the long-term impacts of #globaltechnologicaltransformations on #humanity. Speakers: Yuval Noah Harari : A historian, philosopher, and author of popular books like Sapiens, Harari focuses on analyzing the technological and social changes that shape modern societies through the lens of human history. He is recognized for his significant insights into the ethical, social, and economic dimensions of artificial intelligence (AI). Nicholas Thompson: A seasoned technology journalist and CEO of The The Atlantic, Thompson is known for his extensive knowledge of #digitaltechnologies and #AI. He has gained recognition through articles and interviews that examine the impact of #technology on social structures. Harari's Views: Yuval Noah Harari’s views offer a profound perspective on how artificial intelligence (AI) could impact democracy, labor markets, and our spiritual lives. According to Harari, AI has the power to reshape human identity and societal norms, marking a potential revolution akin to major transformations in human history. He suggests that with the growing influence of algorithms, society’s ways of self-perception and expression may change. For example, he emphasizes that by 2030, AI-driven automation could become prevalent in over 30% of the labor market, warning that decision-making processes based on opaque algorithms may threaten social dialogue and empathy. Harari also expresses concerns about the functioning of democratic structures under AI’s influence; secretive algorithms may intensify social polarization, limiting individuals' ability to understand one another. His analysis of AI’s impact on identity and societal norms underscores the responsibility of individuals and institutions to act conscientiously in response to these challenges.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐖𝐞 𝐂𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬: 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐬 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 Technology is often celebrated as the great enabler—a force that connects, empowers, and innovates. But have you ever paused to wonder what it’s truly doing to us? Every click, swipe, and stream is a testament to human ingenuity, yet it also challenges us to confront profound questions about who we are and who we’re becoming. 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐚 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭: Is technology shaping us, or are we shaping it? 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐞𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐲: Technology has given voice to the voiceless. It has saved lives, made knowledge accessible, and allowed us to transcend physical boundaries. It’s a bridge—connecting cultures, ideas, and possibilities in ways humanity has never seen before. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞: Yet, for all its wonders, technology has also blurred lines. Are we more connected, or lonelier than ever? Are we creating tools to serve us, or are we becoming slaves to algorithms? Every invention solves a problem but often creates new ones we fail to see. Social media connects us, yet fosters comparison. Automation drives efficiency but raises questions about human purpose. AI promises intelligence, but what about wisdom? 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐦𝐚: As we race toward the next breakthrough, are we asking the right questions? What is progress without purpose? What is connection without empathy? What is intelligence without ethics? 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐥: The future of technology isn’t a question of capability—it’s a question of choice. 𝐖𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐭 𝐚 𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐝𝐬: Will we use technology to amplify humanity or to replace it? Will we create tools that unite us or divide us further? 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐦𝐲 𝐚𝐬𝐤: Let’s redefine what innovation means. Let’s build not just for efficiency, but for empathy. Let’s code for compassion, design for dignity, and innovate for integrity. Because the true measure of progress isn’t how far technology can take us—it’s how deeply it can connect us to what makes us human. 𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮: What’s one way you think technology can serve humanity better? Let’s start this conversation. After all, the future of tech is the future of us. #TechnologyForHumanity #FutureOfTech #EthicalInnovation #HumanCenteredDesign #TechForGood
