🎓 Celebrating the End of the Course: Geochemical Indicators for Environmental Monitoring 🌍 The course at the University of Urbino’s Faculty of Geology has come to an end, and I’m filled with pride and gratitude for the incredible experience it has been. Teaching this group of enthusiastic, talented students was not just a professional duty—it was a privilege and a source of inspiration. 🙌 What an amazing mix of future geologists! 🌋 While only one of them has chosen to delve into environmental geology, my own specialty, the others are setting their sights on equally exciting fields: paleontology, geotechnics, 🌊 hydrogeological risk, and 🌏 seismic risk. And that’s exactly as it should be! What matters most is that they’re following their passions and chasing their dreams. 💫 From my side of the desk, I couldn’t help but admire their energy, curiosity, and determination—the kind of drive that defines their generation and fills me with hope for the future. 💪✨ Well done, everyone! The world needs geologists 🌍 Keep shining, and never stop striving! 🌟 Marco Falconi Pavlos Tyrologou PhD CGeol EurGeol CPG European Federation of Geologists David Govoni Francesco Pizzocolo GSEU - Geological Service for Europe Julie Hollis EuroGeoSurveys Rudi Ruggeri Ordine dei Geologi del Lazio ordine geologi liguria Paride Antolini #Geology #EarthScience #RocksAndMinerals #GeologyRocks #Geoscience #EnvironmentalGeology #Paleontology #GeotechnicalEngineering #SeismicRisk #Hydrogeology #Geochemistry #Volcanology #Fossils #PlateTectonics #Sedimentology #Petrology #FieldGeology #EarthHistory #Mineralogy #Geomorphology #StructuralGeology #Stratigraphy #GeologyLovers #GeologyStudent #GeologyLife #PlanetEarth #EarthStudies #Geoscientist #RockFormation #EarthProcesses

📢 Paper alert 📢 PhD student Ivan Krivokorin published his first paper in Quaternary Science Reviews (Q1, CS:7.8): '𝗢𝘅𝘆𝗴𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝘀𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗪𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝗶𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗺𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗵 𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗴𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗺𝗮𝘅𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗺 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻' 🐘 This study examines the isotopic potential of #mammoth remains from three paleontological sites in the southeast of the West #Siberian Plain (SEWS): Shestakovo, Krasnoyarskaya Kurya, and Volchia Griva; and the development of a new dataset for Siberian #paleoclimates. 🧪 Oxygen isotopes from 29 mammoth enamel and tusk samples and horse and deer enamel samples. Sample preservation was investigated using ATR-FTIR and obtained δ18Op, δ18Oc, and reconstructed δ18Ow values for 28-22 ka cal BP. Preservation assessments revealed variable preservation conditions. 📈 Our findings indicate an increase of 1.4‰ in reconstructed δ18Ow values from glacial levels at 28-23 ka to late-glacial conditions at ca. 17–15.5 ka, likely reflecting climatic warming at the end of the #Pleistocene. 🌏 The potential of the Volchia Griva, Shestakovo and Krasnoyarskaya Kurya sites for investigating the Late Glacial Maximum (LGM) in SEWS is enormous due to the large amount of #fossil material buried there. In the future, direct dating of the selected samples would allow us to understand their chronological positioning within LGM more precisely. ▶️https://lnkd.in/gUySua8y 📷 The Siberian Times. 🌍 Attention Geologists Worldwide! 🌋🔍 Did you know that Earth's crust is constantly on the move? From the shifting tectonic plates beneath our feet to the dynamic processes shaping landscapes, geologists play a crucial role in unraveling the mysteries of our planet. Here are some fascinating facts that unite geologists everywhere: 1. **Plate Tectonics**: The theory of plate tectonics revolutionized our understanding of Earth's geology. It explains the movements of continents, the formation of mountains, and the occurrence of earthquakes and volcanic activity. 2. **Deep Time**: Geologists deal with vast time scales, exploring Earth's history spanning billions of years. By studying rocks, fossils, and geological formations, they piece together the story of our planet's evolution. 3. **Natural Resources**: Geologists help locate and extract valuable resources like oil, gas, minerals, and groundwater, essential for modern civilization's development. 4. **Environmental Stewards**: Geologists play a crucial role in environmental conservation and management. They assess natural hazards, study climate change impacts, and develop sustainable solutions for resource use. 5. **Paleontology**: The study of fossils provides insights into ancient life forms and ecosystems, enriching our understanding of biodiversity and evolution. 6. **Planetary Exploration**: Geologists explore not only Earth but also other planets and moons in our solar system. They analyze remote sensing data and geological features to unravel the geological history of celestial bodies. 7. **Public Engagement**: Geologists share their knowledge with the public through education, outreach programs, and geotourism, fostering appreciation for Earth's wonders and promoting geological literacy. Whether you're analyzing rock formations in the field, conducting experiments in the lab, or interpreting seismic data, your work as a geologist contributes to our collective understanding of Earth and its processes. Keep exploring, discovering, and sharing the wonders of geology with the world! 🌍🔬✨ #Geology #EarthScience #PlateTectonics #NaturalResources #EnvironmentalScience #Paleontology #PlanetaryExploration #STEM #ScienceCommunication #Geoscience

Few illustrations in environmental science better demonstrates the first order control of Walker Circulation dynamics in the Pacific tropics over global scale air temperature changes and the tropospheric CO2 growth rate than does this updated time series. Walker Circulation in in the Pacific tropics dictates marine stratiform cloud coverage and the rate of cold carbonic acid enriched deep water upwelling along the tropical latitudes from the eastern Pacific subtropics all the way west to the Atlantic subtropical climate zone.
