What’s in your wardrobe ? We all have stuff lurking that we bought and never / barely wore… it didn’t quite fit / look right / was an unwanted gift/ didn’t suit you, you put on weight etc. Wearing clothes mutiple times and buying for durability / longevity is a key way to be sustainable buy better buy less wear more often. But how do you create emotional longevity? I have dresses that I remember each occasion / party that I wore them to, work dresses that give me confidence when I present. Trousers and tops I can teach in and know I can walk around the room in and feel good all day, goto ‘jeans and a nice top’ (Giorgio Armani / fat face/ Levi Strauss & Co. and bl-nk by Anthropologie / Me&Em/ FatFace - viscose/ cotton or wool (in winter). Clothes I can dress up or down. A denim jacket that was pre loved when I got it many years ago often sets my tone, my preloved TOD'S loafers bright colours reflect my mood. From the designers to the buyers to the producers, retailers and consuner we can all do better. Design better clothes, made from less damaging materials, Nearshore sourced, mono fibre, mendable, up cyclable. Loveable. In my newly found Vinted era I have sold clothes never worn, barley worn or grown out of (children grow fast !). Whatever the role(s) you play in the cycle of clothing, commit to doing it better- that may mean less. I wonder which will be the first high street brand to consciously cut back and create capsule vs volume. 💚
