Seed treatments play many important roles: protecting plants from diseases, pests, and environmental stressors and promoting early growth and vigor. New technology is allowing biostimulants to be used in further development of seed treatments. When biostimulants are added to seed treatments, it can further enhance the root development, nutrient uptake and water absorption of crops helping ensure higher survival rates, emergence and optimal early growth. Making the soil work to feed 10 billion people by 2050 Yesterday was World Soil Day, which is an annual occasion marked by the United Nations, focusing on the importance of healthy soil and advocating for the sustainable management of soil resources. Biosolutions can play a key part in keeping our soil healthy for the future generations. In this article from our biosolutions bulletin, you can learn about how microbes and fungi can be used to replace chemical fertilizers and pesticides, strengthening our plants naturally. "Scientists discovered that numerous bacteria, fungi, and other microbes in the soil, invisible to the naked eye, are key to making plants robust from the inside. These microbes enable plants to absorb essential nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorus from the soil. They also regulate many plant functions, including disease resistance," the article reads. 🐛The employment of natural predators, parasites, parasitoids and pathogens in biological control is a technique for managing pests. These natural enemies interact with plant pathogens through some mechanisms :- 🌿1-In the rhizosphere, beneficial microorganisms like Bacillus can compete with plant pathogens for nutrients and available space, resulting in the production of antibiotics to stop their growth and this is competition 🍄2-Some predatory fungi, like Arthrobotrys and Duddingtonia, can form traps to capture and kill nematodes in the soil and this is hyperparastism 🍃3-When Pseudomonas fluorescens (common PGPR) applied to the soil, it colonize plant roots and produce compounds trigger plant defense responses and this is induced resistance 🧪4-In fermentation vessels, streptomyces are mass-produced to yield antimicrobial chemicals. Once the streptomyces reached sufficient density, plants are treated with it and their dying cells release antimicrobial chemicals onto the leaf surface, killing pathogens or shielding the leaf from infection this is the production of antimicrobial products Biological control promotes sustainable agriculture and ecosystem balance by minimizing air, water, soil and the use of pesticides so crops are produced by it are safer for human consumption. Interesting: New Bedbug Solution in France, finally. - Paris experienced widespread panic due to bedbug sightings in public places, leading to millions of infestations. - French scientists from Nice University Hospital have discovered that Terre de Sommières, a powdered clay, can kill bedbugs within 24 hours by dehydrating them. - Study Findings: Dr. Pascal Delaunay confirmed the product's efficacy after 18 months of trials, with results published in the journal Parasite. - Usage Guidelines: It should be part of a comprehensive treatment plan that includes vacuuming and steam cleaning before applying a thin layer of the powder to bed frames. - Safety Profile: The product is natural, easy to use, environmentally friendly, and poses minimal health risks if inhaled. - Infestation Statistics: Between 2017 and 2022, 11% of French households were reported infested, with an estimated €1.4 billion spent on eradication. - Skepticism: Prosane, a pest control industry group, cautioned that Terre de Sommières is not officially approved as a pesticide and warned of potential inhalation risks. - Government Response: The French government initiated campaigns to combat the infestations before the Paris Olympics, while also addressing concerns of misinformation amplifying the crisis.
