Creativity and Arts are essential for the sustainability of non-urban areas. Its actors can reflect and moderate transformations. At the IN SITU Consoritum meeting in Šibenik, Croatia, we discussed and discovered ways in which we can achieve this for artists and cultural practitioners in non-urban areas: What cultural policy networks and framework conditions are needed to strengthen the regions and pursue a common European strategy in this diversity? #insituconference #sibenik #insituculture #sustainabledevelopment #CreativeInnovation #ruralcommunities #ruraldevelopment #culturalpolicy

As one of Hungary's oldest cities with over 1000 years of history, Veszprém is thriving as an economic hub with a strong focus on culture, innovation, and sustainability. Strategically located close to Budapest, Bratislava, and Vienna, Veszprém is well-connected to Europe’s major capitals, making it an attractive destination for business and talent. The city is also building on its strengths as a gastronomic destination, boasting the second-highest number of Michelin-listed restaurants after Budapest, thanks to its proximity to Lake Balaton and historic wine regions. Looking ahead, Veszprém is on the cutting edge of digital innovation with a new immersive digital museum in the works. The city's blend of rich history, innovative spirit, and strong cultural and educational foundations is poised to make it a key player on the European stage in the years to come. What have #Glasgow (UK), #Veszprém (Hungary) and #Skopje (North Macedonia) in common? They are all European Capitals of Culture. 1990, 2024, 2026. Europa Nostra supports all three. Tomorrow, I will present our support for Veszprém, thanks to Tibor Navracsics, Minister for Regional Development, and the team at Veszprém-Balaton 2023 European Capital of Culture / Európa Kulturális Fővárosa. This is not about legacy – the afterglow of a past event – but living. From Europa Nostra’s perspective, it is about sharing the benefits of synergy – the model of the European Heritage Hub and our own hubs around Europe: collective capacity to inspire and sustain. Genius loci. #SpiritofEurope.

https://lnkd.in/eBpEsjzY I'm with #Budapest100 and colleagues: when is 'modern'? When does modern qualify as heritage? Can modern be accepted as heritage even if not everyone agrees - controversial heritage, dissonant heritage, heritage that is celebrated as European, even sometimes if not so by host countries or communities? I'm here to present the Europa Nostra European Heritage Award to Budapest100 for leadership in informed revelation and inspiring topical debate.

Exactly 10 years ago, I received the best compliment ever: "You are UNCATEGORIZABLE !" In September 2014, I had the pleasure to discuss about #Jugaad #Innovation at an AmCham France event in #Paris with the #Indian ambassador as chief guest. The wise Clara Gaymard, who then presided AmCham France, introduced me in French: "Navi, c'est difficile de vous définir car vous êtes inclassable !" Translation: "Navi, it's hard to define you as you are UNCATEGORIZABLE !" Merriam-Webster defines Uncategorizable as "not able to be put into a defined category or class : impossible to categorize" In today's hyper-polarized world everyone is trying to narrowly define oneself (claiming that doing so makes them "exceptional") and too rapid to "label" others and put them in neat "buckets". In this sociocultural context, I get a kick when someone calls me UNCATEGORIZABLE. When your true #identity defies easy categorization, you don't end up in an existential LIMBO; rather, you become a #LIMINAL #BEING confortable living - and thriving - in the "interstitial (in-between) spaces"

Cultural Heritage: Enlivening the Future ✨ In a rapidly changing world, cultural heritage serves as a beacon of identity and sustainability. Every tradition, dance, song, and artifact tells a story that bridges the past and the present, guiding us toward a richer, more vibrant future. Preserving cultural heritage is not just about honoring history; it is also about fostering a sense of belonging and pride for future generations. By celebrating and protecting these traditions, we ensure that the essence of our ancestors’ wisdom and creativity continues to inspire and shape our modern world. Participate in cultural festivals, learn traditional crafts, and share the stories that have been passed down through the generations. In doing so, we are not only preserving the past—we are enlivening the future with the richness and diversity of our shared heritage. “ Embrace the Past, Illuminate the Future.” 🙌🏻✨ ASEAN Youth Organization #ASEANyouthorganization #ayoASEAN #ASEANYouth #CulturalDiversity

Arts and culture provide neighbourhoods with the capacity to create vibrancy. Netherlands are trying out new business models to create cultural hubs such as using vacant private property to house hubs. https://buff.ly/3Ocazyk

There is no vibrant city without a lively cultural scene, and there will be no vibrant Europe without #culture. Culture is an engine for urban development and contributes directly to enhancing citizens' quality of life. Throughout Europe, mayors are committed to developing local cultural policies and projects that are low-carbon and more inclusive. Eurocities will keep advocating for cultural policies and activities that are greener and more inclusive. Our work will be led by two Shadow Commissioners who will advocate for a sustainable culture: 🔸Nicole Yardeni, deputy mayor of Toulouse 🔸Dejan Crnek, deputy mayor of Ljubljana #TeamLocalEurope
