Honoured to attend as a speaker in the annual conference of IIA Greece, "The Gift of Responsibility." I had the privilege to share insights on Internal Audit functions' alignment with key challenges and new technologies. Now more than ever, Internal Audit can help organizations navigate the new risk multiverse and it is our responsibility to evolve the role of Internal Auditors into that of strategic advisors and remain relevant in the future.

Insightful two day event at the 16th Asia Anti-Corruption Compliance #Summit 2024 last week in Hong Kong, where I presented with a focus on using new #technology to ensure more effective #riskassessment and #monitoring. The enthusiasm of the audience, panellists and speakers was contagious, making my presentation a true pleasure to deliver. I am grateful to the Organizing #Committee of the #16th #Asiaanticorruption #conference for inviting me as a Speaker and organizing this interesting and useful Conference. Few key insights from the session were as follows: - 1. The DOJ’s message from the 2024 Evaluation of #Corporate #ComplianceProgramme is clear: if companies want to maintain credibility, mitigate risks, and avoid scrutiny, they must embrace #dataanalytics to support and document their compliance efforts. 2. There is a lot of buzz around #AI and many of the benefits are still yet to be fully realised, but I do see it as being truly #transformative for our industry. AI is not magic, but it can make a big difference in how enjoyable and efficient your work can be. AI tools can help reduce repetitive or time consuming tasks (by up to 40% for some tasks) and it can increase the quality of work too. However, AI have challenges such as AI systems can produce biased results and growing legal questions around accountability as organizations use AI systems to make decisions. 3. A #datadriven approach allows companies to make evidence-based decisions, providing a real-time view of organizational health. 4. One of the most critical shifts in the 2024 ECCP is the DOJ's call for data-backed evidence of a company's compliance culture i.e. #datadriven #Culture #audit - now Compliance professionals are asked to answer questions about how often they measure compliance culture, whether they collect employee input from all levels, and how they address feedback from these measurements. For example, a company may find that year over year, its employees feel increasingly confident in using whistleblower hotlines without fear of retaliation. 5. In today's rapidly evolving regulatory landscape, compliance has become more complex and challenging for organizations across various industries. Traditional methods of ensuring compliance are often insufficient to meet the demands of modern regulatory requirements. This is where data analytics comes into play. By leveraging data analytics for e.g. tableau / Power BI, organizations can enhance their compliance processes, ensure adherence to regulations, and gain valuable insights that drive strategic decision-making.

In today’s fast-evolving risk landscape, Nikos highlights the critical role of Internal Audit (IA) in fostering business resilience and adapting to emerging risks. Here are the key takeaways: 🔹 Adapt or Risk Obsolescence: CEOs see the imperative need to keep their strategy viable. ΙΑ functions have the same obligation to evolve and remain relevant. 🔹 Responding to Megatrends: From geopolitical shifts to AI, today’s risks require IA to shift focus from traditional audit areas to high-risk areas like cybersecurity, sustainability, and new technologies, in order to address real challenges. 🔹 Tech as a Priority: Only 27% of IA functions have invested in RPA or AI within the last year. IA needs to recalibrate its approach to unlock the potential of technology since old IA approaches may no longer work. 🔹 Strategic Alignment: To truly add value and become a proactive strategic advisor, IA must understand different stakeholders needs, and bridge gaps across functions to address unseen risks.
