We are not talking about this often. Elderly care is often overlooked, yet it's a critical aspect of our society. When I share my passion for elderly care, I'm often met with surprise. It's not something you hear about every day. I believe it's time to change this narrative. More than one third of older Australians live in rural and remote locations, yet when they need to access an aged care home, it often means being separated from their communities and loved ones. Regional providers like not-for-profit Whiddon know it takes more than goodwill to keep operating in regional areas, and more support is needed to keep families together. “One key strategy to better care for our regional communities is a multi-pronged approach between state and federal governments, working cooperatively with providers towards a collective goal,” writes Whiddon CEO Chris Mamarelis in Aged Care Today.
