After sharing how I transformed my freelance translation business into a scalable, hands-off operation, the response has been incredible. Here’s one of my secrets: Let’s dive deeper into one key decision that made a huge impact: Hiring a Virtual Assistant (VA) + Marketing Lead in Thailand When I realised I couldn’t manage everything alone while still translating and launching another company, I needed someone to handle the day-to-day admin cost-effectively. I hired a VA in Thailand (my source language country) starting at THB 20,000/month + commission. Fast forward 12 months: they now earn THB 30,000/month + commission + coworking space rent, reflecting their immense value to the business. Here’s what they handle: Project management Customer care Advertising and sales Digital content creation POs and invoicing Plus many other adhoc requests! The benefits? Cost-effective delegation: High-quality support in my customers’ language at a fraction of the cost compared to Australia. Seamless communication: Clients receive prompt, professional service. More time for me: I can focus on strategy, scaling my startup (AcudocX) and only translating when it’s necessary. The result? My business hasn’t just maintained momentum—it’s grown! Key lesson: Hiring globally can unlock talent and efficiency you didn’t think possible. If you’re overwhelmed running a freelance business, ask yourself: What tasks can I delegate? How much time (and stress) would that save me? Where can I find the right talent cost-effectively? Have you hired a VA or are considering it? I’d love to hear your thoughts or experiences below!

We fully automated how we recruit freelance translators and copywriters. I'll explain you how. 👇 Many localization managers or agencies still post job ads asking candidates to send an email. We used to do it like that in the past too but the spam and backlog that method created became just unmanageable. (I know you know!!! 🤣) That's why we figured out the following workflow. -> Whenever we need to recruit, we write an ad, post it on Linkedin and ask the candidates to apply via a link that leads to a questionnaire. We use the form builder Tally for that (like Google Forms but nicer). That form contains a complete series of questions that need to be answered to see if the candidate makes it through the pre-selection or not (see video part 1). The candidates' answers are automatically prompted to a knowledge database in our systems (we use Notion ⭐ see video part 2). Notion allows you to apply sophisticated filters and 'views' of your data, which makes it super easy for our project managers to find the talents they're looking for. One of our filters is 'was recommended by', a very subjective yet powerful selection criterion. 😃 We're really happy with this way of working. No more exploding inboxes and hours of time-saving knowing that 1 ad can easily generate 100+ applications. Hope this was helpful! #localization

[ How to Freelance in Japan Pt.3 ] Cold outreach is a waste of time❄️ When you're just starting off: it's hot leads or no freelance🔥 Ask all of your existing contacts to ask all of THEIR contacts for an introduction👋 Get ready for rejection city!❌ It's natural, but keep your head up, all you need is ONE "Yes!"🙌 Boom!💥 Now you're a freelancer! After that, ask your 1st customer: "Who do you know that I can help?"📈 And stay away from freelance websites. You'll never win a price war to the bottom📉

Freelancers: Big agency or small agency? Who wins? I started my career in huge translation agency. In 2011, they were already in 25+ countries and had over 2000 employees. Today they completely dominate the market. Since I took my hand to digital in 2017, I've worked in mostly small and some mid-size agencies. I absolutely would work with big agencies, of course. But the idea doesn't thrill me. As a contractor, working in a small agency can have a huge impact. You have direct access to senior stakeholders. You are a significant cost and are utilised more carefully. From my 7 years in a mega agency, it was layers and layers on teams, as well as decision making. An inability to move between teams, little access to key stakeholders, and I definitely felt like a small cog in a huge wheel. If you saw the same ad for a WPP and a small, new agency - would you feel differently about the two? I'm not talking about IR35. Keen to hear positive, big agency experiences! #freelance #selfemployed #contractor #creativeagency #projectmanager #creatives
