While these may be considered the top 10 most prestigious accounting firms to work for, they may not be the firms you want to work for when considering your first job. During the COVID-19 pandemic, our country experienced unprecedented times, and companies across various industries were affected as well. While many companies faced revenue losses, some financial firms saw an increase in demand for their services, leading to a surge in new hires. However, some firms expanded too rapidly and had to make significant cuts in the last two years as the high demand for their services waned. This highlights an important consideration for job seekers in the finance industry. Be smart. Don't apply for a job solely because a company is one of the Big 4. Look for a company that cares about you as a person, is willing to invest in you as an employee, and is committed to growth and retention. The Big 4 accounting firms—Deloitte, PwC, EY, and KPMG—are known for high turnover rates, often exceeding 20% annually. This turnover is attributed to long hours, high pressure, and the demanding nature of the work environment. If your company is not purposefully working towards the constant goal of growing alongside its employees, then you are merely a replaceable part in a machine. Companies that don't prioritize employee well-being often exhibit telltale signs, such as poor treatment from leadership. Your leadership reflects your company’s values—how much do they care about you? It's crucial to choose a workplace where the leadership is genuinely invested in your professional and personal development. Goodbye KPMG – and Hello Grant Thornton On the 31st of July I left KPMG Denmark to join Grant Thornton in Denmark as Audit Partner. I have spent the past 22 years working for KPMG in Denmark. I was one of the first six CPA’s who restarted the new KPMG audit in Denmark, in March 2014 and KPMG has truly been a big and important part of my adult life. I am very proud of the many things I have learned, developed and achieved over the years, including: ➡ I played a key role in January 2014, by resigning at the old firm and helping my international colleagues win Danish global key clients. ➡ My careerlong specialization within large energy corporations and serving several years as lead partner for the DUC and on the Tyra project and winning significant referred out engagements. ➡I passionately built a startup and venture team, servicing scalable tech companies growth, from Startups to Scaleups - as technological development in my view is key to solving many issues of our world. ➡I engaged actively in the Global Emerging Giants activities and contributed to a international network within KPMG Emerging Giants. ➡I had the honor of leading the Audit MidMarket department in Copenhagen for almost a year, meeting and exceeding our goals and seeing a record number of our talents pass the Danish CPA exam. ➡I worked on creating new services, such as Interim Services, a Swedish team and an NGO team, to mention a few. During the spring the management of competing audit firms gave me good advice - which I appreciate. I concluded that Grant Thornton Denmark, is the right match for my future. I share GT’s focus on being a great place for talents to grow, and on creating value for clients.
