Key highlights included Caleb Kositany's emphasis on Kenya's role in global flower and logistics industries, urging partnerships to leverage Eldoret's potential. Lina Jamwa from Kenya Flower Council shed light on challenges faced by Kenya's floriculture, including the Red Sea crisis's impact on logistical operations. Insights into Mombasa port's plans to shift freight from air to sea for efficiency and sustainability were shared. Ken Mbogo from Saudia Cargo discussed trends like sustainable aviation fuel and modernising aircraft, emphasising the complementary role of air and sea freight. Jacob Bwana from Kenya Airports Authority stressed sustainability and community-building within the industry, emphasizing the 3 Ps: people, planet, profit. Panelists like Nick Mwaura highlighted the importance of innovation and collaboration for a sustainable future. There's no overstating how important critical infrastructure like Melbourne Airport is for farmers to access key domestic and international markets. Why have we been advocating for this expansion? Victorian produce has never been in so demand in the global market, especially fast air freight to key markets in Asia and the United States. The extra capacity that a third runway brings means new jobs are created in the agricultural supply chain and our produce remains competitive on the domestic and international market. In 2023-24, Victoria exported more than $19 billion of food and fibre, including huge volumes of dairy, meat, vegetables, fruits and nut products. Our largest export markets include China, the United States, Japan, South Korea and Indonesia.
