Interim finance directors are full-time, temporary replacements for a specific period or project, often filling vacancies or managing transitions. Fractional finance directors work part-time, offering ongoing strategic financial support to businesses that don't need a full-time CFO. They provide expertise without the commitment of a full-time hire. The choice between the two depends on the company's specific needs and circumstances. Ok so growing a recruitment business is hard. Having a back office that’s adds value not only from an accounting/reporting point of view but commercially too is so important. If you don’t want your accountants opinion on your sector or you don’t think they can add value outside of crunching the numbers you are probably with the wrong accountant. Recruitment may seem simple from an accounting point of view but there are nuances that can make a huge difference. Whether it be hiring triggers, cash flow forecasting, commission schemes, crm management etc - my team and I have lived all these over and over. There is a time to bring things in house but that’s when you are at the scale to pay an expert full time and an extra head to do the day to day. Don’t hire an expert in the sector to do bookkeeping 🙈 in the meantime get an outsourced back office with a bit of everyone - bookkeeper, management accountant, FC, CFO, HR, Marketing. You’ll get where you want quicker and you’ll be able to focus on what you are good at it. As sad as it is when a client leaves we love it if it’s because they’ve scaled to a point they need to, we’ve been honest enough to recommend it even though it meant a loss of revenue. We still work with these clients on a year end and advisory basis too so win win. Go get yourself an expert…..
