🚗 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗹𝘄𝗼𝗰𝗵𝗲 𝗞𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 “𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱. 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗢𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀.” in Berlin 🚗 Two days full of inspiring updates and discussions about 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹𝘀 in the automotive area together with my colleague Sandra Loos! In a panel on the topic of 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 with Michael Schiebe from AMG, Andreas Batz from BMW, Maren Graef from Skoda and Klaus Steinmann from MU, one of the topics discussed was 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲. The consensus was that there is 𝗻𝗼 𝗼𝗻𝗲-𝘀𝗶𝘇𝗲-𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀-𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝗯𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗿𝘂𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹. Particularly entertaining were the innovative pitches from 7 start-ups who have pitched their ideas for the car industry of tomorrow. Their digital solutions for the automotive industry were particularly exciting. 🚀 Congratulations to Paula Schwetzler from volytica! They have developed a process to assess the condition of a car battery and have therefore won the 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗨𝗽 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿 award! 🚗 🔋 I was also impressed by Oliver Zipse from the BMW Group with his 𝟱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲𝘀 as an impulse, 𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲: 1️⃣ Following short-term trends without thinking is not a strategy - at least not at BMW 2️⃣ Electromobility remains the most important growth driver 3️⃣ Hydrogen is the missing piece of the puzzle for emission-free mobility. In the medium and long term 4️⃣ Projectionism only knows losers in the end - global business models require local action 5️⃣ Europe needs a coherent industrial framework to remain competitive in the long term   A huge thank you to all organizers, speakers and participants for this great event, which also provided the perfect opportunity for exchange among the participants. #rpc #wearerpc #automotiveindustry #innovation #emobility #networking

It’s that time of year again! This weekend, my colleagues Alex Gover and Michal Witkowski and I will – like 95,000 others – be excitedly packing our suitcases for MWC 2024 in Barcelona. This will be Intralink’s 18th consecutive appearance at the Mobile World Congress!   Over the years, MWC has transformed from a niche, western-oriented mobile phone trade show in Cannes, to THE global B2B tech show in Europe, spanning everything from cars to robots and quantum computing…   This year’s theme is “Future First”, and that’s certainly what we’re expecting to see from the Asian companies exhibiting. Giants such as NTT DOCOMO, Huawei and SK Telecom will take centre stage, showing off the fruits of their major R&D initiatives.   SK Telecom, for example, which recently redefined itself as an AI company rather than a telco, is pioneering development of non-terrestrial networks for Urban Air Mobility, autonomous vehicle systems and the latest in XR content creation and distribution.   I’m most looking forward to visiting the Xiaomi Technology stand, as the company is known for bringing along its latest wacky inventions. This time, we’re expecting to see its new SU7 electric vehicle which boasts a 1,200km range, the latest in obstacle detection technology and a 56-inch HUD! This will no doubt be a better seller than the transparent TV the company brought along in 2022 (photo below).   Of course, the action isn’t just confined to the big stands. Every year, MWC attracts hundreds of tech companies to exhibit their latest technology. Hall 8 (AKA 4FYN) is jam-packed with Europe’s most exciting tech companies. From quantum to robotics, AI to sustainability, there’s something for everyone.   And there are huge opportunities for these European tech firms to sell their innovations to the Asian corporations, if they know where to look.   So, I can’t wait to fly out and meet friends old and new. Although I just remembered all my stuff has to fit under one Ryanair seat, so I’m off to repack....   Let me know if you’ll be there and want to talk Asia!

'Oh wait.. so this is just it?' So the Geneva Motor Show is a bit of a let down. A total of 21 exhibitors is not exactly what you come to expect from one of the largest automotive happenings of the year. I don't feel particularly bad for the automotive industry. It's just a sign of the times, that traditional communication and touch points are increasingly being replaced by new media. For example, I'm seeing a strong rise in "all digital" concepts. Concept cars that exist exclusively in the virtual space. It's a trend I can understand: a great, lean way to connect with a large online audience. It's more cost-effective than a traditional concept car, the potential reach is much greater, and if audience feedback is positive, a physical concept car can always be built. Brands big and small, can guage the market effectively using this method. I'm now wondering if, and why, only the automotive industry is exploring this strategy. Just returned from Automechanika 2024 in Frankfurt,Germany—what an incredible experience! The ‘Future Mobility Park’ was a standout, showcasing cutting-edge mobility solutions, alternative drives, and innovative technologies. Highlights included live demonstrations and test drives, such as the world record-setting e-van scaling Earth’s highest volcano using solar power. UFI Hydrogen focuses on developing Membrane-Electrode-Assemblies (MEAs) with catalyst-coated membranes (CCMs), essential for efficient green hydrogen production and conversion into electricity. The exhibition tackled crucial trends like electrification, decarbonization, and the challenges of digitalization, AI integration, e-commerce business models, and skilled labor shortages. There’s also a notable trend in the aftermarket space, driven by the booming second-hand market and the growing emphasis on re-furnishing parts, which offers lower production times, extended warranties, and more affordable service options.
