This year's International Women's Day Theme is 'Inspire' and we don't think there could be a more fitting theme ✨ At BMS Progress we're surrounded by so many inspirational women, both internally and the clients we work with. What's less than inspirational is that there still seems to be inequality throughout the work place, world-wide, not just in the UK. Did you know that the global average of women in leadership roles is 32%, that's less than a third!!! At BMS we're proud to play our small part in driving change: ✨60% of BMS Progress' Senior Leadership Team is made up of women. ✨72% of BMS Progress' internal employee's are women. ✨46% of our learners on Team Leader and Management programmes are women. ✨36% of our learners on Sales programmes are women. EM is proud to be sponsoring POWERful Women’s Annual Conference (6 November 2024, London and online) for a second consecutive year.   Launched in 2014, POWERful Women (PfW) is a professional initiative working to create a gender-balanced, diverse and inclusive UK energy sector that’s fit for the energy transition.   One way to support this is undoubtedly to improve gender diversity across the sector, as evidenced by a Boston Consulting Group (BCG) study which found that diverse leadership teams boost innovation, and McKinsey & Company’s latest analysis revealing that companies with the most gender-diverse executive teams are 39% more likely to see stronger financial results than those with the least diverse teams.   As well as sponsoring the event, we’ll be running a workshop - The Power of Communication - in which EM Development Director, Natalie Sweet, will delve into the enduring principles of good communication, and explain how we can all apply some of the techniques employed by leading brands to build our own personal brands, become better communicators, and inspire positive change.   Find out more here https://bit.ly/3zYEsPt #PfWConf #diversityandinclusion #womeninenergy #energytransition #b2bmarketing

I’ve recently joined the Diversity Project - Investment Industry as an Ambassador for the gender equality workstream. The Diversity Project is committed to building a more inclusive and diverse investment and savings industry in the UK - one that mirrors the society we serve. We support numerous efforts to drive better representation and inclusion across financial services. The impact report 2023-2024 (link below) summarises the impressive progress achieved in recent years, including: - Membership has grown by 20%, now representing 118 firms and 85,000 employees. - Over 27,000 people have benefitted from our six core programmes, which have supported women in leadership, promoted flexible working, and created pathways for underrepresented groups. - We’ve developed 25 best practices, guides, and resources to help firms embed diversity and inclusion into their culture. - Pathway programme - aiming to develop more female fund managers: From the 60 participants in the first cohort in 2023, 28 have already been promoted, 12 to portfolio manager or adjacent roles. This year we have 80 women on the programme from over 40 companies.   - We’ve also partnered with Oxford Brookes University Business School to develop an accreditation framework to recognise firms making real strides in diversity. The investment sector needs more diversity and we recognise that diversity isn’t a box-ticking exercise; it drives better decision-making, innovation and enables for sustainable business on the long-term. The #IWD2024 theme #inspireinclusion reminded me of something I found in the National Archives of the Fiji Islands last year which "shifted" things alittle (at least in my head, which led to some questions: What does a feminist look like? Who defines that? Are we all feminists one way or the other. Does practising a feminist principle make you one? Is this even a question when one considers the systemic oppression represented in the protagonists of this tale i.e an enabler of colonialism, gatekeepers of culture and proponents of traditional governance systems?) I did not answer the questions in the article but I do hope that it starts conversations around definitions and stereotypes, and perhaps a serious look into how the lack of women in indigenous leadership spaces may be costing us alot more than just development? #generequality #feminism #development #inclusion #progress #women #indigenousleadership #leadership #restrospective Published by The Fiji Times 13.03.24

Leadership and its connection to the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Being the ability to successfully or effectively influence a team or a group of persons to develop and implement a goal. Effective leadership is depicted around the attributes one possess as a leader. The leadership of a project, government or an organisation plays a pivotal role in driving the efforts of sustainability, hence the need to prioritize effective leadership in implementing fully the United Nations SDGs. Effective leadership is an essential tool for setting organizational priorities, harnessing resources, incubating sustainability culture. A leadership without commitment and action, finds it challenging to composite the SDGs into corporate strategies, operations, and decision-making processes. This lack of leadership engagement can hinder progress on critical issues such as poverty reduction, climate action, gender equality, and responsible consumption and production, among others. The striking gap between the expectations set by the SDGs and the current level of leadership engagement underscores the need for renewed commitment, capacity-building, and incentives to encourage business leaders to prioritize and actively contribute to the achievement of the global goals. Addressing this leadership deficit is crucial for accelerating progress towards a more sustainable and equitable future. #sdgs
