I have consulted many candidates from bigger consulting firms and tech companies throughout my career. Interestingly, many choose to continue their careers at smaller firms or startups. While the reasons vary, a recurring theme I heard from most people I interviewed was that they were tired of being one of many in a big company and wanted to have a greater impact on the business through their individual efforts (and be rewarded for it). For them, working at a smaller company was the right answer. Of course, this is not to say that bigger companies don't have their perks and career benefits. The SAP market in Germany is feeling the strain, particularly when it comes to German-speaking SAP consultants specialising in FI and Banking modules. Despite the rise in demand due to ongoing digital transformation and S/4HANA migrations, there’s a critical shortage of qualified professionals. This talent gap is part of a broader trend—Germany is expected to face a deficit of 2.5 million workers by 2030, with the financial services sector being one of the most impacted. Many companies, including top consulting firms and financial institutions, are looking outside Germany to fill these roles, often turning to international talent pools like India. While the expertise of international professionals is invaluable, the language barrier remains a challenge for seamless integration, especially in client-facing roles. This gap presents both a challenge and an opportunity for SAP professionals fluent in German who are willing to specialise in these critical areas. What are your thoughts?
