Balancing innovation with budget constraints is tough, but it's more important than ever in healthcare. My session on November 19th with Khawar Khokhar from SAKS Health and Doug Jordan from Bausch + Lomb at the Informa Copay, Reimbursement, and Access Congress, "Factoring in Innovation Whilst Facing Budget Constraints," will explore how we can keep innovating even when money is tight. With changes in how we fund new treatments, companies are investing later in the development process to manage risks. Khawar, Doug, and I will share our experiences and strategies for staying flexible and patient-focused, even with limited resources. I've been in the pharma industry for over 20 years and I know how important it is to find ways to innovate that are also sustainable. It's about being smart and nimble with resources while still driving forward-thinking solutions. Let's rethink how we approach innovation in a budget-constrained world. Reflecting on yesterdays MDR/IVDR event orchestrated by Zorg voor innoveren, it's remarkable to witness the synergy of diverse initiatives and organizations collaboratively advancing the healthcare industry. Maroeska Rovers illuminated the dual challenges healthcare entrepreneurs encounter: navigating the rigorous path of regulatory approval and thereafter, commercializing their innovations. Through Health Innovation Netherlands (HI-NL), entrepreneurs are afforded a unique opportunity at the early stage to hear feedback from a comprehensive spectrum of stakeholders. This roundtable discussion, featuring doctors, patients, insurers, and field experts, fosters a multifaceted evaluation and guidance on ideas. Despite the onerous demands MDR imposes on our sector—tempering innovation—witnessing the resilience and adaptability of true entrepreneurship remains inspiring. Willem Schüngel of NN Ventures spotlighted their venture into new initiatives and developments within healthcare, underpinning startups with their expansive knowledge and network. Heikki Pitkänen demonstration of Lean Entries as a pivotal tool for product registration illuminated a path through the regulatory labyrinth, simplifying the journey towards an efficient and effective market introduction. Thanks to Zorg voor innoveren and Tess Rutgers van Rozenburg - Rottier for hosting this event. It's awesome to see people working together to push healthcare forward.
