Separatists’ shift to rural areas in Anglophone Cameroon Since 2021, separatists in Anglophone Cameroon have increasingly moved to rural areas as a result of rising violence against civilians and declining local support. Facing waning support and exposure to state forces, the more mountainous terrain in rural areas, provides strategic advantages for separatist fighters and makes access difficult for military forces.
