In the year following Hamas' 7 October 2023 assault, Israel has faced over 2,500 violent incidents initiated by Gazan militants, Hezbollah forces from Lebanon, and the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). These attacks have resulted in projectiles hitting Israel, the occupied Golan Heights, and Israeli military bases in the disputed territories of Shebaa Farms and Kafr Shuba Hills. In turn, Israeli forces have engaged in over 22,000 military actions across Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria. Our latest report provides a comprehensive look at the key numbers behind the ongoing conflict. "The Iranian-backed Houthis are a rebel group based in Yemen who, in recent months, have begun attacking vessels throughout the Red Sea in response to Israel’s war with Gaza. The Houthis first gained prominence in 2024 after rebelling against Yemen’s government. Despite a decade-long civil war within their own country, the Houthis spent years fighting a military coalition in Saudi Arabia and have asserted themselves as a growing terrorist group." For your consideration: 1) A major military force - Hizbullah - operates from within Lebanon, claims to do it on behalf of Lebanon and Iran, and yet somehow both states avoid culpability because “non-state actor”?? 2) Said military opens war, attacks neigboring country - Israel - unprovoked in order to prevent attacked country from taking effective action against another attacker and fellow Iranian asset - Hamas - and those parameters are accepted? 3) Said military says will cease attacks when fellow attacker - Hamas - is shielded from the consequences of its brutal attack on neighboring country, and those terms are just taken as is??

Good discussion on NewsNation with Hena Doba about whether Iran will directly strike Israel and U.S. forces in the region in response to the attack in Damascus. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps provides weapons, training, and funds to tens of thousands of fighters in Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, Gaza and the West Bank—Hezbollah, Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Fatemiyoun Brigade, Houtis, and others—to attack Israel and U.S. forces, using these proxies to carry out military and geopolitical objectives while avoiding direct blame.

Today, the #Syrian regime has reportedly lost contact with Maher al-Assad, the #brother of Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad, following an Israeli airstrike that targeted his villa near Damascus. #Maher, who commands the elite 4th Division of the Syrian Army, was said to be hosting a high-level meeting with Iranian leaders at the time of the strike. The 4th Division, known for its close ties to #Iran and its involvement in protecting the Assad regime, has been a key player in Syria’s internal security and military operations throughout the civil war. Israeli airstrikes in Syria are often aimed at curbing the influence of Iran and its allied militias, which have entrenched themselves in the region. While the full extent of the damage from today’s attack remains unclear, the loss of contact with Maher could signal a significant disruption within the regime’s command structure. The presence of Iranian officials at the meeting further underscores the deep military cooperation between Syria and Iran, a partnership that has long been a point of tension with Israel.

Israeli military eliminates, detains 14,000 radicals in Gaza in nine months According to the IDF, over this period the Israeli military has eliminated half of the Hamas armed wing’s command TEL AVIV, July 16/ Around 14,000 Palestinian radicals have been either eliminated or detained over the nine months of Israel’s operation in the Gaza Strip, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said. "IDF ground, air and naval forces have been operating in the Gaza Strip for 263 days in order to achieve the objectives of the war. The forces have eliminated and apprehended approximately 14,000 terrorists. Among the eliminated terrorists are six brigade commanders, over 20 battalion commanders, and approximately 150 company commanders," it said. "So far, the IDF has struck approximately 37,000 targets from the air within the Gaza Strip, and more than 25,000 terrorist infrastructure and launch sites," it said, adding that over this period the Israeli military has eliminated half of the Hamas armed wing’s command. Tensions flared up again in the Middle East on October 7 after militants from the Gaza Strip-based radical Palestinian group Hamas launched a surprise incursion on Israeli territory, killing many Israeli kibbutz residents living near the Gaza border and abducting more than 240 Israelis, including women, children and the elderly. Israel declared a total blockade of the Gaza Strip and launched bombardments of the enclave and some areas in Lebanon and Syria, as well as a ground operation against Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Clashes are also reported in the West Bank. #business #finance #financialservices

What is Israel’s long-term goal in Lebanon? PART 13 Israel has been fighting in Gaza for a year and there has been major destruction of Hamas brigades and a severe loss of fighters. The biggest problem for achieving its aims in Gaza is that Israel has no vision for an alternative governing force. The problem isn’t that Israeli forces are being spread thin, but that Israel needs a political strategy for a government framework that leads to Palestinian self-determination and has international and Palestinian buy-in. Without that, Gaza will be a constant threat and a constant military drain.

Framing Hamas as a thief of aid can also legitimize military actions taken by Israel against Gaza. If public opinion is swayed to believe that Hamas is hoarding resources meant for humanitarian assistance, it can create a justification for Israel's military operations, which are often portrayed as necessary to combat terrorism. This perspective can diminish calls for accountability regarding the humanitarian impact of these military actions.
