Shining a Light on Obstetric Violence in Nursing - Join me for a panel discussion on Sept 19. As healthcare providers, it’s our duty to ensure every patient feels respected and safe. Yet, obstetric violence remains a harsh reality in some birth settings— unintentional whether through coercion, lack of informed consent, or dismissive care. Trauma-informed care is crucial in addressing these issues, fostering environments where patients’ voices are heard and respected. Let’s work together to create a culture of empathy, dignity, and empowerment in obstetric nursing. 💪 Join me for a panel discussion on this topic based on the recent publication: Exposing the Role of Labor and Delivery Nurses as Active Bystanders in Preventing or Perpetuating Obstetric Violence 2024 AWHONN Ohio Annual Conference - September 19-20 co-panelists: Cristen Pascucci, Paula Rojas Landivar, Maggie Runyon #ObstetricViolence #TraumaInformedCare #NursingLeadership #PatientAdvocacy

The SNEC-SERI faculty is proud to present the latest issue of Eye-Sight. Here we focus on our youngest patients: babies who need extra care for their eye health. Newborn babies born prematurely may need careful monitoring for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), a disease that can have grave consequences for a child’s vision. Other highlights include: · The long-term safety of Atropine eyedrops in myopia control where there is no increased incidence of complications such as cataracts in adulthood 10-20 years later. · How our post-graduate nurses are upskilling themselves to lead thermal treatment for dry eye disease. · Our very first nurse clinician, Nazurah Loh. In an interview, she describes her path to success in nursing. Download a copy of our #EyeSight from our website: https://lnkd.in/gBGcbkiq Happy reading! #SNECSERI #EyeCare #Atropine #ROP #EyeSight

Prioritizing Oral Health for Older Adults in Nursing Homes Oral health is a cornerstone of overall well-being, yet older adults in nursing homes often face significant challenges in maintaining it. A new study from the University of Gothenburg highlights how unclear routines and varying levels of training among staff can put residents’ oral health—and overall quality of life—at risk. Key Findings: 👉Challenges in Routine Care: Inconsistent responsibilities and a lack of training often lead to oral care being deprioritized. 👉Health Implications: Poor oral health can result in pain, difficulty chewing, and weight loss, impacting overall health. 👉Structured Solutions: Implementing clear processes and providing proper training for staff can help detect and address oral issues early, preventing unnecessary suffering. 👉Management’s Role: Leadership in nursing homes must establish clear oral care routines and ensure all staff are equipped with the necessary skills and resources. By fostering awareness and improving communication, nursing homes can better support residents' oral health, ensuring a higher quality of life. Let’s continue to advocate for comprehensive care for older adults.
