5 sales skills I’m better at because I’m a mom: 1. Active listening: It is VERY important for my children to feel heard. That means I’ve had a lot of practice paying close attention and I naturally bring the same focus to my sales calls. 2. Empathy: I wasn’t heartless before, but having kids and feeling responsible for their mental safety makes me so much more aware (and in my opinion, empathy is critical for good sellers) 3. Patience: I was once told that by a recruiter that my personality assessment showed a very high “impatience”score and I was worried…until she said that’s usually a good quality for a sales person and offered me a job. It’s actually been helpful to tone it down a bit. 4. Prioritization: I was already ruthless with my time, but being there for my kids is a non-negotiable, so I’ve gotten even better 5. Negotiation skills: Coming to terms on *actual* contracts is a cakewalk when you compare it to getting kids to brush their teeth and go to bed. All this to say: working parents are assets and bring SO MUCH more to the table than what's on their resume ✌️
hahaha my toddler is a better negotiator than anyone i've ever met
1 & 5 from the top rope! Mainly because I would rather claw my eyes out than convince a toddler to put on shoes they don’t think that they need to wear. And flashback to when my nephew had to be told that Spider-Man had to come get his uniform (aka- they had to wash his spider man costume that he insisted to wear to school 4 days in a row when he was 3). Godspeed 🫡
I'd add organization to this list for myself. It's a whole new level of planning to keep all the activities and pickups/ drop off straight.
Love this. I always say that parenting is WAY harder than any sales job I’ve ever had 😅
And being a parent is a motivation to succeed.
Prioritization is huge with kids. I'm so much more efficient and ruthless with my time since having kids!
YES to all of this! Also 'translator' or language expert! If you can figure out what a toddler is trying to tell you with minimal language skills while throwing a tantrum, you can match needs and features for anyone in sales! Same with describing large ideas or thoughts in child-size steps!
My 8 yr old is a more fierce negotiator than anyone I know. Try her. She remembers all and knows her worth.
When it comes to negotiation, my mom is a dictator 💀
Trust Me, I'm a Salesperson | Coach, Speaker, and Pisstaker | Fluent in English, Memes, & Sarcasm
