There's a lot of talk in the circles I move in about online mental health resources and whether they are useful and reliable. I don't blame people for being sceptical in the age of celebrity influencers, many of whom give advice on the basis of no formal training. There is danger in that - especially in mental health. If you are going to take mental health advice its worth looking for experts and there are some amazing people in Australia working on some of the most effective (yes, I have evidence!) online mental helath tools in the world. The important thing is to look for mental health advice from reputable organisations and institutions. The Australian Commission for Quality and Safety in Healthcare accredits some Australian digital mental (dMH) health resources so you can be sure ccredited resources are safe and reliable. There are also a few of evidence based resources that haven't been accredited yet but are still reliable and trustworthy. If you are interested in finding out about online mental health resources (for yourself or for someone else) there's a resource book on the eMental Health in Practice website that provides a comprehensive list of Australian evidence-based online mental health resources for you to choose from. Here's a link to that resource book for you to explore. https://lnkd.in/gmgJBBxa You can also get a hard copy of that resource book that might be a great addition to your workplace library 😊

2024 has been a transformative year for mental health initiatives in the WHO South-East Asia Region. The Regional Roadmap for Results and Resilience – our strategic framework for a healthier region – was endorsed and adopted by our Member States. The first pillar of this roadmap calls for “Reinforcing mental health, wellbeing and quality of life for us all”. It is heartening that our entire region has made this clear and unambiguous commitment to the mental health of all who live in South-East Asia. This report highlights the key initiatives undertaken by WHO, in collaboration with Member States, in 2024. As the pages ahead will show, it has been a constructive and productive year both at the country level, as well as at the regional level. https://lnkd.in/gQuERt-X

Beyond the Royal Treatment 👑 Everytime I speak about mental health, the first question I receive would be “how expensive are the charges?”. While the allure of personalized luxury in mental health care is undeniable, I think it's high time that we challenge the status quo. Should high-quality mental health care be a privilege reserved for the wealthy? Or should we strive for a system that prioritizes accessibility, inclusivity, and evidence-based practices for all? The "royal treatment" approach, while well-intentioned, can inadvertently perpetuate inequalities. It's essential to explore alternative models that focus on: 🧘♀️Affordable care: Making mental health services accessible to everyone, regardless of income. 🧘♀️Community-based programs: Leveraging local resources to provide support and connection. 🧘♀️Holistic approaches: Incorporating complementary therapies and lifestyle interventions. 🧘♀️Research and innovation: Continuously advancing our understanding of mental health and developing effective treatments. By reimagining mental health care, we can create a more equitable and compassionate world where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Let's discuss! 🌟More Mental Health Sharings🌟 ➡️ Dr Siti Syahirah #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #psychologicalsafety #SSJ

On this World Mental Health Day, ask your HR department: Which people aren't being served by your company's mental health benefits, and why? Nicole Piggott, president of Synclusiv, shared a telling story at our Benefits at Work event: When she conducted a survey at one company, she found that people of specific ethnicities — whose life experiences were vastly different from those of the therapists offered to them — were the ones who felt excluded by the benefits on offer. How does one address such an issue? Watch the full conversation on demand to learn more: https://lnkd.in/g3KAP8kc

Folks - please take the opportunity to have your say to help shape the emerging ‘mental health and wellbeing’ strategy. We’re hoping the strategy will: - take a life course approach, with a particular focus on infants, children and young people - reflect what we now know about brain health as a critical determinant of mental health, and - promote a neuro- as well as a trauma informed approach that links together what we know about human development, wellbeing, healing and resilience!
