Researchers' Grand Prix (Tyrėjų Grand Prix), Lithuania's "X-Factor for researchers," is now accepting submissions. Anyone in my network who knows a Lithuanian PhD researcher, whether they are in Lithuania or abroad, in any field from life sciences to social sciences and beyond, is kindly asked to share this message with them. I strongly support this event, now in its third year, for its role in energizing the Lithuanian scientific community by showing that scientific ideas can be presented in an engaging way. This not only motivates more young people to pursue research but also encourages businesses to see it as a foundation for future breakthroughs. Participants will present their theses in just 4 minutes, judged by a jury and voted on by the audience during a live event at Vilnius Town Hall. All participants will receive mentorship and coaching in public speaking and presentation skills, along with cash prizes for the winners and the opportunity to advance the commercial implementation of their ideas. Last year’s winner, Raimonda Bogužaitė from the Nanotechnology Department at the Lithuanian Center for Physical Sciences and Technology (FTMC), was invited by Baltic Sandbox Ventures to join a startup program. #Innovation | 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝘁 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗮 | Technology transfer is crucial for bringing innovations out of the lab and into the wider world. At Empa, this involves direct collaboration with industry or founding spin-offs. Marlen Müller, Head of Knowledge and Technology Transfer at Empa, emphasizes that this collaboration is in Empa’s DNA. The institute, from its foundation as a materials testing institute, has maintained strong ties with Swiss industry, leveraging its extensive materials science expertise. Empa's primary technology transfer channel is through industrial partnerships, with over 130 projects annually. These collaborations lead to products, patents, and new technologies, benefiting Swiss SMEs and large companies. Researchers retain the ability to publish results, an essential aspect for academic growth. As Switzerland ranks high in innovation, Müller notes that effective technology transfer is key to maintaining this status. CompSafeNano has been designed as a convergence science project to truly integrate existing nanoinformatics (e.g. NanoSolveIT and NanoCommons) and nanomaterials governance projects (RiskGONE Project), and bridge gaps in methodologies and approaches as proposed by the Nanoinformatics Roadmap 2030.   The CompSafeNano Project brings together sixteen partners from EU member states and associated countries and six partners from third countries. The project connects partners from Academic Sector (public/private higher education establishments awarding academic degrees, public/private non-profit research organizations, International European interest organizations)  and Non-academic sector (companies, SMEs, NGOs etc.). A total of 19 countries are participating in the project.   One of the project's goals is training activities, with a strong focus on cross-sector exchanges between SMEs and academies and international cooperation, filling a well-recognized current skills gap in nanoinformatics and big data analytics.
