👏 Share an excellent article 👍recently published in Actas Españolas de Psiquiatría titled "Prevalence and Correlations of Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder: A Sample of Adult Working Women" ✨Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) represents a significant psychiatric condition affecting women of reproductive age. It is characterized by cyclical emotional and physical symptoms that considerably impair psychosocial functioning. This study addresses the gap in the current literature that has predominantly focused on student populations by surveying adult working women to determine the prevalence and associated etiological factors of PMDD in this group. The study determines: ✅PMDD has a prevalence of 3.04% in the surveyed population, and is a notable concern among adult working women. ✅Key factors, such as age, age at menarche, income level, menstrual cycle characteristics, menstrual symptom presence, physical activity, and caffeine intake, significantly contribute to the likelihood of developing PMDD. ✅These findings underscore the importance of recognizing and monitoring the above risk factors by clinicians to identify and manage PMDD in working women. 🔑 This study is motivated by the growing recognition that psychological determinants in mood-related disorders hold substantial practical and social implications. Elucidating the prevalence and influencing factors of PMDD among professional women is crucial for the development of effective interventions and support systems. Such approaches can improve the health status and quality of life of professional women, simultaneously providing essential guidance for clinical practice and public health policies. https://lnkd.in/gMAntHc4 Article title: Labor Epidural Analgesia and Postpartum Depression Author(s): Catherine D Tobin*, Sylvia H Wilson, Latha Hebbar, Laura L Roberts, Bethany J Wolf and Constance Guille Journal: Archives of Depression and Anxiety Journal ISSN: 2455-5460 Abstract: Introduction: Epidural labor analgesia may decrease the risk of postpartum depression (PPD). Methods: In a secondary analysis of a prospective study, the association between epidural utilization and PPD was evaluated using a Fisher’s exact test. PPD was defined as an Edinburgh Postnatal Depression score of > 10 at 6-8 weeks postpartum. Results: 20% (13/65) of women meet criteria for PDD. 24% (n=12/50) of women who received epidural labor analgesia developed PPD, compared to 6.7% (n=1/15) of women who did not receive epidural labor analgesia (P = 0.27). Conclusion: Labor epidural analgesia did not reduce the risk of postpartum depression. #BehaviouralPsychology #AnxietyDisorders #BehavioralDisorders #BipolarDisorder #ChildAndAdolescentPsychiatry #ClinicalPsychiatry #Dementia #MentalDisorders #MoodDisorders #NeurodevelopmentalDisorder #ObsessiveCompulsiveDisorder #PersonalityDisorder #PsychosomaticMedicine #Peertechz #PeertechzPublications #PsychoticDisorders #SleepDisorder #SuicidalBehavior #AbnormalBehavior #AppliedPsychology #BrainAneurysm #BrainTrauma #Coma #Dysthymia #ExistentialDepression #ManicDepression #StrokeDepression #AnxietyTreatment #DepressionTherapy #BrainStimulation #CommunityPsychiatry #EatingDisorders #MemoryDisordersAndDementias #MovementDisorders #ObsessiveCompulsiveDisorder #Schizophrenia #SubstanceAbuse #TraumaticBrainInjury #BorderlinePersonalityDisorder #AnxietySensitivity #PostnatalDepression #SeasonalAffectiveDisorder

Addressing Stigma and Burnout in Healthcare: A Focus on Substance Use Disorder (SUD) People with substance use disorder (SUD) often face significant barriers in healthcare, particularly stigma and discrimination. These challenges not only affect their access to quality care but also impact their overall experience within healthcare systems. A recent study involving 1,796 healthcare professionals from Veneto's Local Health Units (Italy) sheds light on this critical issue. The research aimed to: Evaluate physicians' clinical practices and attitudes towards patients with SUD. Understand the relationships between stigma, psychological well-being, and burnout among healthcare staff. Key findings: ✅ Stigma Remains Prevalent: Healthcare professionals exhibited higher levels of stigma towards SUD patients, which were notably linked to burnout, sex, profession, and department. ✅ Burnout and Stigma are Interconnected: High levels of burnout were associated with increased stigma towards SUD patients, highlighting the need for comprehensive support systems for healthcare workers. ✅ Departmental Differences: Staff in addiction departments demonstrated lower stigma levels compared to those in other departments. However, there were no significant differences in clinical practices. 🔑 Conclusion: The findings emphasize the urgent need for targeted training to reduce stigma, improve healthcare professionals’ attitudes, and enhance their understanding of SUD. By fostering a more inclusive and empathetic environment, we can improve the quality of care and psychological well-being for both patients and healthcare providers. #Healthcare #SubstanceUseDisorder #StigmaReduction #Burnout #InclusiveCare #MentalHealth #PatientCare #HealthResearch #SUD https://lnkd.in/g_VCbQxB University of Ottawa University of Ottawa, Department of Psychiatry of Psychiatry Marco Solmi Alice Valdesalici Elena Boatto #scienceslab #mentalhealth #evidencebasedmedicine

A recent study published in JAMA Psychiatry revealed a promising increase in access to psychotherapy among Americans, rising from 7% in 2018 to 9% in 2021. Notably, nearly 40% of these sessions were conducted via telemedicine. While this progress is encouraging, significant barriers remain, including lack of insurance coverage, high out-of-pocket costs, and limited access to technology. To truly expand access to psychotherapy, especially for underserved groups, targeted interventions and policies are essential. Providence Health Plan, we are committed to delivering high-quality care through innovative services like ExpressCare Virtual and the Behavioral Health Concierge. These initiatives are designed to make mental health support more accessible and equitable for all. Addressing Health Disparities: A Shared Responsibility Health disparities are a complex issue that requires a multifaceted approach. Factors such as socioeconomic status, geographic location, and systemic inequalities contribute to the uneven distribution of healthcare resources. By fostering collaboration between healthcare providers, policymakers, and community organizations, we can develop comprehensive strategies to bridge these gaps. At PHP, we believe in the power of community and the importance of equitable healthcare. Our efforts are focused on ensuring that everyone, regardless of their background or circumstances, has access to the mental health services they need. Let's lead a broader discussion on addressing health disparities and improving healthcare for everyone. Together, we can make a difference. #MentalHealth #Telemedicine #HealthcareAccess #PHP #HealthEquity #HealthDisparities https://lnkd.in/dS7mGdTV

A new study finds for-profit ownership of outpatient and residential behavioral healthcare treatment centers has increased over the past decade. For-profit firms are accelerating their expansion into behavioral health treatment, raising questions about the impact this might have on the quality of care. In a new study published in JAMA Psychiatry, researchers found that private equity (PE) acquisitions of outpatient and residential mental health and substance use disorder (SUD) treatment facilities are increasing—in some states, significantly so. #healthcare #treatmentcenters

https://lnkd.in/gU9Rvphc Article title: Bipolar disorder and aging Author(s): Michel Bourin Journal: Archives of Depression and Anxiety Journal ISSN: 2455-5460 Abstract: Bipolar disorder is a chronic illness, defined by a succession of depressive and/or manic periods separated by free intervals. Its evolution with aging is marked by a high suicide mortality rate. Bipolar disorders raise the question of their evolution when the age of the subject, in particular with regard to their frequency, their clinical characteristics, their prognosis and their management. The evolution of bipolar disorder with aging poses several difficulties in clinical practice due to its underestimated frequency and its misleading presentation and in particular by the presence of sometimes significant cognitive alterations leading sometimes to dementia. #BipolarDisorder #Aging #Cognitive #Impairment #Dementia #BehaviouralPsychology #AnxietyDisorders #BehavioralDisorders #BipolarDisorder #ChildAndAdolescentPsychiatry #ClinicalPsychiatry #Dementia #MentalDisorders #MoodDisorders #NeurodevelopmentalDisorder #ObsessiveCompulsiveDisorder #PersonalityDisorder #PsychosomaticMedicine #Peertechz #PeertechzPublications #PsychoticDisorders #SleepDisorder #SuicidalBehavior #AbnormalBehavior #AppliedPsychology #BrainAneurysm #BrainTrauma #Coma #Dysthymia #ExistentialDepression #ManicDepression #StrokeDepression #AnxietyTreatment #DepressionTherapy #BrainStimulation #CommunityPsychiatry #EatingDisorders #MemoryDisordersAndDementias #MovementDisorders #ObsessiveCompulsiveDisorder #Schizophrenia #SubstanceAbuse #TraumaticBrainInjury #BorderlinePersonalityDisorder #AnxietySensitivity #PostnatalDepression #SeasonalAffectiveDisorder

Co-authors Kelly Chan, Li Tong Low, Joshua Wong, Sherwin Kuah, and A. John Rush have published a peer-reviewed study in the Journal of Affective Disorders, entitled “Healthcare resource utilisation and suicidal ideation amongst adolescents in the US with posttraumatic stress disorder, major depressive disorder, and substance use disorders using electronic health records.” This study highlights the substantial burden experienced by US adolescent patients diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), particularly when they also suffer from comorbid major depressive disorder (MDD) or substance use disorders (SUD). Using de-identified electronic health record data from NeuroBlu Data, Holmusk researchers found that these comorbid conditions substantially increase the likelihood of emergency room visits, inpatient admissions, and suicidal ideation. These findings underscore the complex challenges posed by multiple psychiatric conditions in this vulnerable population and highlight the critical need for improved screening and treatment of adolescents with PTSD and comorbid MDD or SUD. Αdolescents in substance misuse treatments. The evidence as it stands demonstrates the importance of the therapeutic alliance in predicting outcomes for adolescents in substance misuse treatments. The implications of the review's findings and recommendations for future research are discussed. Key Practitioner Message Past research in a variety of domains suggests that engaging adolescents in a strong therapeutic alliance improves treatment outcomes. In 12 out of the 16 studies (75%), significant alliance–outcome associations were found, whereby higher alliance ratings predicted better treatment outcomes, as well as improved engagement and retention in treatment. Due to the existence of alliance–outcome relationships, researchers and clinicians can begin to understand the specific role alliance plays in adolescent substance misuse treatment. Future research to better understand the conditions that impact the alliance–outcome association within this context should be conducted.
