Why do I spend so much time talking about the cultural iceberg during the Future Ready Skills for International Students programme? It impacts every aspect of the recruitment process, from how to showcase your skills (please stop underselling yourself), to writing a CV (country-specific format please), to how to approach employers and conduct a professional interview. And that's just getting the job! When you're in the workplace how do you navigate team dynamics, share your ideas or ask for help. And that's just one company! How does the culture change when you move organisations and how can you adapt? Thank you to the lovely students who shared their experiences and laughed at my cultural iceberg mistakes. Top UK Universities does not guarantee jobs. The harsh reality for international students: Empty promises ↳ Take a £25k loan, get sponsored easily. ↳ There are sponsored roles but no guidance. Broken support system ↳ Career fairs are just another discussion. ↳ No dedicated international student resources. Exploitation cycle ↳ Universities see students as business. ↳ £££££ charged for basic career guidance. ↳ Career coaches pushing free work schemes. This is exactly why International student enrolment is dropping. Here’s my take on this: Start taking control of your future. Stop relying on Universities for jobs. Work on building an unignorable story. Work on building an unignorable profile. University is a proxy to enter the country. It's time for change. What do you think? #Internationalstudents

Securing a campus placement goes beyond academic achievements; it demands a blend of intellectual, social, and emotional maturity. Intellectual maturity is not just about subject knowledge; it’s about the ability to think critically, approach problems innovatively, and understand the nuances of the industry. Recruiters look for candidates who bring fresh perspectives and can adapt their skills to real-world situations. Social maturity is essential in today's collaborative work environments. It's about effective communication, teamwork, and respect for diverse viewpoints. Students who display social maturity are not only able to connect with colleagues but also contribute positively to the workplace culture. Emotional maturity is the anchor that keeps everything balanced. It involves managing stress, staying resilient in the face of challenges, and responding constructively to feedback. Employers value candidates who can handle high-pressure situations and demonstrate a level-headed approach to problem-solving. Mastering these three dimensions of maturity prepares students to make a meaningful impact, positioning them as well-rounded candidates in the competitive world of campus placements. #ppinsights #campusplacement #campustocorporate #career

Did you know? 40% of university graduates work in jobs unrelated to their field of study (Source: Gallup). 60% of employees feel disconnected from their work, leading to decreased motivation and productivity (Source: Harvard Business Review). Individuals spend up to 5 years in career transition, resulting in lost earning potential and career growth opportunities (Source: National Career Development Association). The primary reason for this is the lack of career counselling in the early stages of education. South Asia, home to vast human resources, struggles with high unemployment rates. According to the World Bank, youth unemployment in South Asia was approximately 10.9% in 2020, with millions more engaged in informal or precarious work. In Pakistan, a report by the British Council highlighted that career counselling services are almost non-existent in public schools, leaving students to rely on family advice or peer influence, which may not align with their skills and interests. The effects of the lack of career counselling are extensive and demand action. Without guidance, people often end up in mismatched jobs, affecting their satisfaction, mental health, and productivity. This mismatch results in a less skilled workforce, hampering overall economic development. Integrating career counselling into school curriculums, fostering public-private partnerships for mentorship and internships, and launching awareness campaigns about the benefits of career counselling can help students make informed decisions, align their skills with job markets, and ultimately drive economic growth. #CareerCounseling #EconomicGrowth #Education
