In the private agriculture sector, graduates, post-graduates, and PhD holders are often labeled as "freshers" after completing their studies, regardless of whether they have been independently running their own companies as young, innovative entrepreneurs for years. If this designation is based solely on not working under anyone or any recognized organization, then what purpose do the academic programs like the 4th-year RAWEP (Rural Agricultural Work Experience Programme) and the 4-month internship serve? During these periods, we encounter numerous incidents such as working with farmers and gaining industrial exposure. Dear Agricultural Graduate, Congratulations on bagging that degree in agriculture. It's no doubt a testament of your resilience and strength. It shows how much agricultural knowledge you've acquired. Here's a truth I want to share with you: "In today's world, that's still not enough". The average Nigerian agricultural graduate tends to be sound intellectually and poor in terms of experience. Now, no one is blaming the graduate (it's simply how our educational system works) however, everyone wants to employ an experienced professional. So don't be shocked when no one employs you to be their farm manager despite your degree. What then should you do? As Farmer Samson Ogbole, one of my favourite person in the agricultural space, will always say: "go for hands-on experience". Seek internship in agricultural firms, enrol in trainings and mentorship programs. Find ways to apply all that knowledge you have in real life situations, solve real life problems, develop expertise in your field and see how valuable you would become in the agricultural industry. It is good to have an agricultural degree but it's even better when you merge that with sufficient experience. #Agriculture

Hello connections, 🌱 I am thrilled to share that I have completed a 2 month research internship with the Indian Chamber of Food and Agriculture (ICFA). This internship provided me with a valuable opportunity to: -Gain in-depth knowledge about various government initiatives. -aimed at supporting Indian agriculture. -Analyze the impact of these subsidies on farmers livelihoods and agricultural productivity. -Develop research and analytical skills to assess the effectiveness of these Programmes. During this internship, I conducted extensive research and prepared a comprehensive report on how collaborations between public and private sectors can drive sustainability in agriculture. This experience has significantly enhanced my research, analytical, and report-writing skills. I gained valuable insights into innovative strategies and models that can be implemented to support farmers, improve productivity, and promote sustainable practices. #RealityInFewWords! I told my assistant on the farm: if I grow you should grow. And if you receive a monthly salary and can't be accountable, you'll quit. Last two days, he told me: My hero (that's how he calls me), I want to get 5 hectares of land by this December, please help me because I want it to be close to the recent 20 hectares. I was impressed and I believe "each one, teach one" There's something I'm working on, and it will come to life it's #AOS (Agribusiness Operating System). Happy Song Edwin Nyah , is helping out each time we meet. The future is bright. I want to inspire youths: it's hard, it's rough, the systems ain't favourable, but all we need is that make up mind to do it and be it. We just need the right strategies and systems. If you're a graduate or an agribusiness student without a game plan, take time and draft it out. You don't have to be miserable after graduation. I'm not saying it's easy, but I'm saying you know what to do, but you're not doing it. It's simple: if you love agriculture and have found purpose in the industry, your day-one internship is enough to help you build a thriving foundation. If you don't love agriculture and see no future in it, don't bother yourself trying to satisfy your peers or your family; simply quit and do what's best for you. Never underestimate the internships or trainings - I have experienced it's benefits first hand. 📍 l thought after studying agriculture for 5 years, I knew everything about Indian Agriculture, Soil, and Crops. 📍But I was wrong, there's so much to learn from practical life and internships/trainings apart from the book knowledge. 📍During my first internship after completing my studies I discovered a completely new way of looking at things. ✅ Learnt practical implications of the theories that I studied. ✅ Discovered the art of negotiation. ✅ Understood ground-level farmer issues ✅ Knew the importance of trust and gained it from dear farmers. ✅ Knew more about climate changes while working on field. Despite the limitations of my school, I always found ways to gain hands-on experience. Saw Opportunities in Challenges: Agriculture was often overlooked, but that's precisely what intrigued me. I saw a goldmine of untapped potential. Don’t let the naysayers discourage you. Embrace the challenges as opportunities for innovation. Even when faced with skepticism, like my dad's initial doubts, stay determined. Your perseverance will pay off. 3. Explored Diverse Interests: My Agric degree was a foundation, not a cage. I explored various fields within and outside agriculture. This helped me identify my strengths and passions. Don’t limit yourself. Explore different areas, from agribusiness to agrotechnology. The broader your knowledge base, the more versatile you become. 4. Shared Knowledge Enthusiastically: Teaching others solidified my understanding of concepts. I was always eager to share what I knew. Mentoring or tutoring fellow students can be incredibly rewarding. It not only helps others but also deepens your own knowledge. 5. Cultivated a Lifelong Learner Mindset: Agriculture is a dynamic field. What you learn today might be outdated tomorrow.
