It’s interesting to observe the shift in our data on COVID-19 pneumonia among medical scheme members over the course of the pandemic. In 2020 and 2021, as expected, COVID-19-related pneumonia was associated with higher ICU and ventilation rates and longer hospital stays compared to non-COVID pneumonia. Notably, a recent analysis by our Health Intelligence team, Matthew Zylstra & Lizelle Steenkamp, revealed by 2022, this trend had reversed. Discovery Health Medical Scheme members admitted with non-COVID pneumonia began experiencing higher ICU admissions, greater need for ventilation, and longer hospital stays compared to those with COVID-19 pneumonia. Access the full analysis on our Health Insights Hub: https://lnkd.in/dT99jVZ3 and please share your thoughts on these findings with me in comments. #COVID19 #HealthIntelligence #DataAnalysis #Pneumonia #DiscoveryHealth

A diagnosis identifies a patient’s health problem. To reach a diagnosis, patients and their health care teams must work together to navigate the complex and sometimes (too) lengthy diagnostic process. Themed “Get it right, make it safe!”, this year's World Patient Safety Day - September 17 - is focused on improving diagnosis for patient safety. This is the value of diagnostics in action! #roche #rochediagnostics #rochecanada #diagnostics #valueofdiagnostics https://lnkd.in/e63tX3tw

🌟Patients Need Patience🌟 As we observe Autoimmune Awareness Month, it is crucial for us at ViuHealth to highlight impact that actions and words have on patients - and this message puts things in perspective. To all healthcare professionals, every interaction with a patient holds immense significance in their journey towards health and well-being. The way we communicate, the empathy we show, and the patience we exhibit can truly make a difference in the lives of those who rely on us for care. At ViuHealth, we understand the importance of building trust and confidence with patients. With long schedules and strenuous tasks, the workday of a doctor is certainly challenging - and we are here to help. With our Care Team to provide that extra care between doctors visits, we strive to create a comforting and supportive environment for individuals dealing with autoimmune conditions. By being mindful of the unique needs and emotions of each patient, we can provide a more personalized and compassionate healthcare experience. Let us take this opportunity to reflect on the impact we have on the lives of our patients and recommit ourselves to providing the highest quality of care with patience and empathy. View the toolbox: https://loom.ly/3rDr_V0 There’s no place like home. That’s why, in the not-too-distant future, many older people will be able to access medical care and services for chronic and acute health conditions from the comfort and convenience of their own residences. Let’s face it. Most people would prefer to age at home rather than being treated in a sterile hospital setting or nursing home as their health begins to decline. But it’s more than patient preferences driving the shift toward aging at home. As concerns grow about hospital-acquired infections and antibiotic resistance, many public health experts believe the longer people can stay out of the hospital setting, the better off they will be—both mentally and physically. Read the blog: Why Home Is Where Good Health Is, located in our Impact of Aging toolbox sponsored by Patcraft to hear more.
