As one of my mentors likes to say, "Run a safe fleet or wish you did." Huge shoutout to Josh Hannaberry and Dave Elniski for facilitating the AMTA March Regional Meeting, which focused on exactly that. Here are some key takeaways: 1️⃣ Certain practices that the National Safety Code outlines are only the bare MINIMUM. High-caliber companies go a step further. Continuous improvement and education > "safety & compliance" 2️⃣ No matter what safety practices you put into place, none of them will work unless your company CULTURE speaks for itself. 3️⃣ Use technology to be PROACTIVE. For example, outward-facing cameras can help carriers hold their Professional Driver Group accountable. One of the carriers mentioned in the meeting went from having 30-40 harsh events monthly to only 3-4 after they installed outward-facing cameras. Thank you everyone from the AMTA once again for the industry opportunities to learn and grow. #dailygrowth #continuousimprovement

theGDSN.com To our Linked-In Colleagues and Contacts. Thegdsn.com is a simple ANONYMOUS and CONFIDENTIAL Reporting Tool that has been created for divers and associated personnel at any global diving worksite, to report CONCERNS before they have the potential to develop into serious incidents that might lead to injury or loss. The website has recently been updated, please review the way the website works by accessing it at theGDSN.com One of the updates include the addition of the (UK) Health + Safety Executive email contact address for any UK work-site based CONCERNS and recent updates to the FAQ page. Why has theGDSN.com been created? ……….. Because there is no Safety Net out there for Divers + associated personnel when things go wrong, they are often let go, abandoned by their Employers with no further follow-up, no communication, no financial support and bullied by the Company Lawyers into submission. The GDSN thanks you all for your continued support, With the increase of reports, The GDSN is able to highlight some of the issues within the industry.

Happy Friday! If your unsure of the safe operation of a MEWP or Telehandler please spend the time asking questions and get trained. We practice for just about everything in our lives, safe operation of a MEWP or telehandler should be no different. If you can practice, yes practice (Allen Iverson) prior to starting your application you are safer, and more efficient. Trying to figure out what your toggle switches do at height is not the time. So practice/familerize yourself prior to operating a MEWP or Telehandler. Practice!

Here’s one for the confined space training centres and trainers. I was asked to carry out some noise measurements for an organisation running confined space training. The results were surprising to say the least. I deployed Cirrus dosebadges to track their exposure over the full course of the day. I like the dosebadges as they calculate the average LAeq. Waving a noise meter about for 10 minutes doesn’t do this. Also following someone round all day with the microphone within 150mm of their ear isn’t really practical either. 3 out of 3 delegates were exposed over the exposure action value (EAV). 2 out of the 3 delegates monitored were exposed above the exposure limit value (ELV). So the question is if you deliver or run confined space training what does your noise assessment say? A few points to note if carrying out noise measurements: ✅ You must use at least a class 2 microphone within the meter. ✅ measurements must be taken within 150mm of the ear. ✅ the equipment must be calibrated at least every 2 years (best practice is annually) ✅ on site calibrations must be taken before and after any measurements taken ✅Individuals can be exposed above the LAeq and the LCPeak. If your going to provide hearing protection it needs to be calculated using one of 3 ways: 👂 HML 👂 SNR or; 👂 octave bands (so you’ll need an octave band meter) it’s also handy when specifying engineering controls. So what does your confined space risk assessment say? If like one of my clients you weren’t too sure on this. Send me a DM, email or send that pigeon. ross@velocitysafety.co.uk 01254 933 486 #confinedspace #ecitb #SQA #cityandguids #NOCN #noiseatwork #occupationalhealth #BOHS #occupationalhygiene #hearingloss #hearingprotection #SNR

Need some focused support? DHVI UK Operations Manager Ari Rozkalns is here to help! Since signing our exclusive agreement with DHVI Downhole Video and Intervention back in April, he has been utilising his extensive experience in downhole camera design and operations to help our clients visualise their wellbore with pinpoint accuracy. So, today, Ari has answered just a handful of the most frequently asked questions he gets as DHVI’s technical support go-to. ❔ What can clients expect from DHVI Technical Support? “For each individual camera operation, we ensure that a team of experienced camera operators and technical staff are on hand 24 hours a day for support. Before a camera operation takes place, we will set up a contact group that includes key personnel and DHVI technical advisors from the UK and North America to give round-the-clock support. Plus, we have a 24-hour call answering service should a customer need emergency camera service.” ❔ How often can an issue be resolved remotely? “Almost always. We supply 100% redundancy on all equipment mobilised to an operation. So, should a technical problem occur, there is always a backup piece for equipment to be used. DHVI can also log in to the camera system’s user interface remotely and help diagnose any potential technical issue.” ❔ And if it can't be resolved remotely? “Should we need to, we can mobilise an engineer and spare equipment from the UK or North America. However, such is the reliability of our equipment we have never been required to do this.” Learn more ➡ https://lnkd.in/dNcKjxYu #OilandGasIndustry #DownholeVideo #WellIntervention #WellIntegrity
