Due to a mix of reasons, including stigma and cost, many won’t wear hearing aids. That’s the audience Dutch B2B startup Audus Technologies is targeting with its product, Knisper. Knisper uses AI to make speech more intelligible in environments such as cinemas, museums, public transportation and work calls. In practice, this means splitting the audio and mixing it back into a clearer track. It does so without increasing background volume noise (something not every hearing aid company can say), which makes it comfortable for anyone to listen to, even without hearing loss.” Read the whole article about Knisper, but also how startups like Acapela Group, Visualfy and Whispp keep up the good work! People often ask me: How did it all begin? Looking back, the journey of creating InSignLanguage has been both challenging and deeply fulfilling. It all started from a very personal place ... growing up with a mother who was hard of hearing, I saw firsthand the barriers that exist between the Deaf and hearing communities. The struggles for accessibility were real, but so was the determination to find solutions. I realised there was a gap, not just in communication, but in understanding and connection. That’s when the idea for InSignLanguage was born. My mission was, and still is, to create a world where communication between Deaf and hearing individuals is seamless, fostering inclusivity at every level. Today, InSignLanguage and InSignLanguage AI are at the forefront of breaking down those barriers, and I’m proud of how far we’ve come. But this journey isn’t just mine - it’s a shared one, with an incredible team and community who believe in the power of accessibility and connection. To anyone who’s just starting their journey - find your "why" and let it guide you. You never know what you might build. #InSignLanguage #Accessibility #Inclusivity #DeafCommunity #Entrepreneurship #CommunicationMatters

Learn about audism, hearing centric views and the medicalization of hearing loss through our LMS; Uncommon Knowledge.
Silicon Valley’s Missed Opportunity: Can Technology Save Us from the Silent Crisis? Alright, let's imagine a world where technology isn't just the latest gadget you can't afford, but an actual lifeline for folks who’ve been sidelined by something as ingrained and invisible as audism—a term that, let’s face it, most hearing people have never even heard of. It’s like air pollution: you don't see it, so you don’t think about it, but breathe it in long enough, and it's deadly. Now, picture this: disruptive technology—those shiny new toys in the Silicon Valley sandbox—actually stepping up and doing something beyond making our lives more convenient or more entertaining. What if the same AI that currently suggests you watch yet another cat video could be trained to interpret sign language in real-time, without missing a beat? Or if the VR headsets, currently relegated to the gaming world, could create virtual meeting rooms where Deaf employees are no longer on the periphery, awkwardly trying to catch the eye of an interpreter? Imagine smart glasses that display captions over every conversation like subtitles in a foreign film, except this time, the foreign language is just the spoken word. The thing is, this isn’t some far-off, sci-fi fantasy. This is the kind of thing that could be happening right now—should be happening right now—if we stopped thinking of "disruptive" technology as just another buzzword and started recognizing it as a means to upend the quiet tyranny of audism that Deaf and hard of hearing people face every single day. We’ve got the tools, the innovation, the code. What we need is the willpower to acknowledge that, yes, audism is real, and no, it’s not just the problem of those who suffer from it. It's our problem. It's a human problem. And in that acknowledgment lies the potential to create a workplace, a society, where communication isn’t just a privilege for those born with functioning ears, but a right accessible to everyone. Nicole McAnnally Thank you for helping us to understand Audism. This is important. #DisruptiveTech #AudismAwareness #InclusionMatters #DeafCommunity #TechForGood #FutureOfWork #Accessibility #Innovation #BreakingBarriers #MentalHealthMatters

Last week, Dr Julia Rone and the great team at Minderoo Centre for Technology and Democracy, University of Cambridge, organized a workshop on Fostering Participation in Decision-Making on Computing Infrastructure in Europe and the UK. Listening to others and speaking at the session on societal impacts and democratizing infrastructure was a pleasure. I recommend the multidisciplinary team at Minderoo. A great place to entertain discussions on public participation and emerging legal approaches for claiming legitimacy. #Technology #Democracy #DataCentresinEU.

At Odyssey Global Media, we’ve been listening closely to the discussions within the neurodivergent community. We recognize the pressing themes that have emerged—particularly the ongoing lack of inclusion for neurodivergent adults and the pervasive culture of masking. While we celebrate the incredible talents, ideas, and skills that neurodivergent individuals bring to the table globally, we must acknowledge that these individuals often find themselves overshadowed and marginalized. Through our initiative, "Art That Changed the World," we believe in empowering everyone to communicate their own stories. Too often, false narratives dominate the conversation in the arena of disability, and we are committed to changing that. We also champion unconventional entrepreneurship. Not everyone thinks the same way, so why aren’t there enough opportunities for neurodivergent entrepreneurs to thrive? We are excited to announce that Odyssey Global Media is fully behind "Art That Changed the World" and is ready to launch Phase 1 of our call-out for neurodivergent artists to partner with us. Together, let’s break down barriers, challenge false narratives, and create a platform where neurodivergent voices are not just heard but celebrated. If you’re a neurodivergent artist ready to share your story with the world, we want to hear from you! We also have spots available for a judging panel of artists for the talent open call. Both for the panels and phase 1 artist consideration, write to us with your Art CV, and a brief motivation for the project: info@neurodivergentsynergy.com Join us in this transformative venture. Your art has the power to change the world! #odysseyglobalmedia #art #global #artthatchangedtheworld Neurodivergent Synergy
