2014 - Was introduced to the concept of a course like Actuarial Science 2024 - A decade later completed all actuarial exams & other formalities to add "FIA" post my name. This doesn't change anything materially at the core but it does possibly change the perception one has (whether ideally credentials should matter or not is a discussion for a different day - and it isn't a black or white answer). Hopefully my journey & the journey of all others as well who are qualifying as fellow actuaries inspires the budding actuaries to remain resilient & determined to work hard & eventually qualify themselves. I don't believe in motivation because that is at best short term in nature. But getting inspired from someone (especially the way they prepare or their focus or their commitment) or having a strong underlying incentive to achieving your goal is something that will help you in pushing yourself even in challenging times. In isolation my journey might look very easy given all these 15 papers were cleared in first attempt, but it wasn't the case in reality. Clearing (rather studying) for last few papers along with multiple things at background & lack of interest in memorising things was a major challenge for me. I learned it the hard way & had to force myself to change my technique of writing "crisp to the point answers", something I had been doing for past 20 years, & rather start writing as much points as I can even if I am not very sure of whether the point made sense or not. (something I thought I never would do) Each one of you would possibly face different challenges (academic, personal, professional, financial etc) in this actuarial journey of yours & some might face extremely unique challenges. It is under these trying times that you need to have a solid incentive to remain committed to this journey. And at the end, when you yourself have reached there, you all would certainly agree that the outcome never mattered (significantly), rather it is the journey that has made us whatever we are. And this event becomes much more meaningful when you see your parents, friends, family & students in my case feeling proud & happy, more than what I personally would have. Signing off as - Ashnut Kothary, FIA #qualifiedactuary #fellowship #fia

"Start studying for your exams now, or you may find yourself struggling to complete the course later. Actuarial exams are known for their rigor, and staying consistent with your preparation is key to success. Creating a study plan early, setting manageable goals, and sticking to them can make all the difference. Don’t underestimate the time and effort required—building good study habits now will pay off in the long run!" #ifoaupate #ifoaexams #ifoaapr25exam #ifoa #iaiexam #actuarystuff #actuarialentranceexam #actuariesofthefuture #actuarialsciencestudent #actuarialmemes #actuarialcoaching #actuarialonlineclass #actuariesinthemaking #actuariesindia #actuarialscience

AIM STUDENT TESTIMONIAL We received the most beautiful email this morning from AIM alum, Reanetse Moeketsi, about his time on AIM: "...AIM was a key turning point for my academic journey as you revived my hopes. You taught me that there was more to me than my Transcript. As if that was not enough, you went on to expose me to the other side of Actuaries...thank you reviving my dreams of one day qualifying as an Actuary... The connections I made there are invaluable..." If you are feeling uncertain about your actuarial studies or looking for a confidence boost, consider applying for the January 2025 AIM programme. It could change your life.

💭 Should you get an actuarial science degree to become an actuary in 2025? A few years ago, I would have confidently said no. In fact, I would've probably said...❌"PLEASE don't major in actuarial science!"❌ I thought that majoring in actuarial science would "lock people in" to the career, making it hard for them to switch to something else if they changed their minds. With such a specific degree, it could be hard to get a different job. But the actuarial world has been changing... and honestly, my perspective has too! The truth is that it's more complicated than just a yes or no answer. And after 10 years of working closely with aspiring actuaries, seeing what genuinely works for them, and watching the profession shift, here's what I think. First of all, there’s no one-size-fits-all path. Deciding whether to pursue an actuarial science degree (or not!) is going to depend on your goals and circumstances. But in general... I'm recommending that students DO major in actuarial science. Especially in Canada, taking related classes has gotten more and more valuable since you can get credit for so many exams that way. And in the USA, you can still get credit for exams through school at SOA-accredited schools. That's a huge time saver for students! However, you absolutely don't NEED an actuarial science degree to become an actuary. And it might not even be your best option! I’ve laid out my full thoughts, along with practical advice to help you decide what’s right for YOU, in a new blog post: 👉 Read it here: https://lnkd.in/guCY2Jrb I hope it helps you choose your major with confidence! But hey, what do you think? Is an actuarial science degree a “must” in your eyes? Let’s talk about it! 👇 #ActuarialScience #FutureActuaries #MathStudents #ActuaryCareer

I had failed yet again. The sixth time in my then young career. But I wasn't ready to quit. Thing is, most actuaries fail exams. Oh sure, some go on a heater and pass every one they take. But not me. And not most. Four years after that final failure, I earned my Fellowship credentials to complete a difficult but rewarding journey. Beyond advancing my career, the actuarial exams taught me perseverance, discipline and resilience. Any failure is just a temporary setback. An opportunity to persevere. A trial to overcome. To all aspiring actuaries: Keep at it. It's worth it. And you can do it. No matter how many times you fail. P.S.: Actuaries, be honest: how many exams did you fail?
