As birthday tradition demands, I get to make a wish and this one is about the future of 𝐀.𝐈. & 𝐆𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠: The "𝔸𝕀-𝕎𝔸𝕂𝔼ℕ𝕀ℕ𝔾" of NPCs! 🚀🎮 The combination of my two most favourite topics is definitely a love match 🔥➜ AI-supported gameplay and gamedesign can change gaming as we know. Imagine a world where #NPCs (Non-Playable Characters) in games aren't just there to tell you, "Thank you Mario, but the princess is in another castle." (#SuperMarioBros) ♥️👾 A story-rich game has always been very intriguing. Action-Adventure games, be it #PrinceofPersia #Uncharted #LastofUs #TheOrigin, do very good in this category. Open World Games such as #GTA #RedDeadRedemption #AssassinsCreed go one step further, but nontheless: Most of the games follow the same design blueprints that were drafted in the 80s—basic rules of progression, rewards, and the concept of "the hero’s journey” - Yes, the more complex the game is, the more decision trees, but still the diologue-tree-approach remains, meaning all possible answers of #NPCs are fully scripted. Generative AI can change the way NPCs interact with each other and the player, #LLMs (Large Language Models) can close the gap of those “soulless” NPCs. Inworld AI in collaberation with Ubisoft is leveling up game development with AI as we speak. 🤞 I root for this concept in combination with my most favourite genre "Interactive Storytelling": Games like #DarkPicturesAnthology (Supermassive Games Ltd) and #DetroitBecomeHuman (QUANTIC DREAM) heavily focus on story and character development, where the player's decisions directly influence the plot and the fates of the characters. One can only imagine what the outcome could be once the #Humanoids in "𝐃𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐢𝐭: 𝐁𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧" would act driven by the creative spark of AI while 𝒷𝓮𝒸𝓸𝓂𝒾𝓃𝓰 𝒽𝓊𝓂𝒶𝓃.
