Bird Flu As a Farmer, I am seriously concerned about this issue. Currently my market basket of good I sell are eggs, chicken, turkey and quail. I have a Aviary in which my chicken and turkeys live and my quail are in a secured area also. If I have one bird show positive for H5N1, I loose the whole flock. This is my hobby (retirement) job and not my main source of income, so I am in a secure fiscal state. There is a larger issue to look at. The 'HOWEVER' is the attack on the 'Food Security' of the Nation. Look at your packaging and see just what is in the food you purchase. Think of COVID and multiply by 10 fold the areas that would be effected. Think the shelves were bare in 2020? We produce or local source and store over 90% of the food we consume, so that puts us in a better space than 95% of Americans. We butcher and store fowl, buy beef and pork from local farmers. Vegetables are frozen or canned and we make our own jellies and jams. Americans need to start looking at becoming self sufficient, learning from where their Food Chain comes. Some folks think that Safeway and Walmart produce the beef and chicken on the shelves. Ask a Gen Z from where their hamburger comes? They protest the 'killing' (slaughter) of animals all the while consuming products derived from their deaths. For those that remember, we are kinda floating along in Apollo-13 on the way to the moon. 'BOOM' O2 Tank (Covid). We weathered that and now...the CO2 level is rising (H5N1). What have we learned from History? https://lnkd.in/ebyyEY3y
