Playing with low-res large-scale model in Environmental Site Model (ESM) ESM has been built for high-resolution site characterization (HRSC) using soil and direct push probing data. A typical high-resolution site is a couple of hundred meters on each side and 10 to 30 meters deep, with a model grid resolution of around 1 cubic meter. Data wise however, a large regional sized model with a lower resolution is the same thing. In this example, geophysical resistivity data to a depth of 300 meters and an area of 400 square kilometers, is sliced in X, Y, and Z. Model grid resolution is 100000 cubic meters. #𝗴𝗲𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗹: 𝗜𝗻𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗴𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘂𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 One for the #geoscientists in my network Causeway Energies is commencing work on our second urban geothermal #heatpump system. A couple of water abstraction boreholes and a fault crossing the site on the survey's 1:10,000 map tells us that there is sufficient uncertainty in the subsurface that we should consider a geophysical site investigation. Relatively cheap geophysics can help to avoid relatively expensive drilling mistakes. Problem is that recent experiences with several techniques tells us that "noise" and "interference" from city infrastructure can limit quality data, so we're looking for techniques that don't suffer from that problem. We have one technique in mind already, but given the relatively novelty of this project, it would be good to access others. The city is in the UK and we need to find a readily available tool that can be deployed quickly over the summer.
