Meet Chester, a 3-year-old Shorthaired Pointer foster dog in Apex, NC, with a story that inspires. Chester’s reactivity to dogs, people, and noises has made it difficult for him to find a forever home. But his foster family is going above and beyond—they’re investing in his training, even though he’s only with them temporarily. I have deep respect for their commitment. They’re not just fostering; they’re giving Chester the skills and confidence he needs to thrive in a loving, permanent home. Together, we’re tackling his reactivity, teaching loose leash walking, and building better behaviors. It’s a long journey, but every step counts. This story is a testament to the impact of training, compassion, and dedication. When we invest in animals like Chester, we’re not just helping them—we’re shaping futures and strengthening bonds. If you’re in Apex, NC, or nearby and need help with your dog’s training, let’s connect. Together, we can create lasting transformations. #DogTrainerApexNC #FosterDogJourney #ShorthairedPointer #ReactiveDogTraining #ApexDogs #DogBehaviorist #DogPrincipal #RaleighDogTrainer #RescueDogTraining #CompassionInAction #ProfessionalDogTraining

🐶 Foster Friday: Finding Balance and Joy🐶 If you know me personally then you probably know that fostering dogs is one of my great joys. Both of my current dogs are foster fails and this little nugget is my 4th foster this summer. A couple weeks ago after handing back two 8 week old puppies, I had said to myself that I wouldn’t foster again until I accomplished some specific work goals. So I worked on them and worked on them and quickly felt myself becoming frustrated. I kept seeing how RACC(Richmond Animal Care and Control) was at max capacity and needed help and I started beating myself up for this stupid arbitrary rule I’d set for myself. Then yesterday my RACC foster coordinator reached out specifically asking if I could take this little guy in. I knew the minute I read the email that the answer was yes. Self-discipline is important… but so is knowing what energizes and gives you joy. Within a couple hours of saying yes I made a huge leap on one of my work goals. Releasing myself from my “punishment” actually helped me make real progress. On this Foster Friday, I’m reminded of the importance of balance. Balancing self-discipline with moments of self-care is essential, not just for our well-being, but for being able to be our best and give our best to others. What are you restricting yourself from that really energizes you? What brings you joy? Take a moment today to fill your bucket—you deserve it. #HappyFriday #FosterFriday #SelfCareMatters #adoptdontshop #balanceiskey #joyfulliving

For many people, adopting a dog from a shelter is THE only adoption path they want to follow. But with six out of ten dogs adopted returned, shelter dogs have their own unique set of issues, that many potential "want to do the right thing" adopters don't fully grasp. In this 3-part series, I'll take you through the pre-planning you should be doing coupled with what types of dogs you'll find at the shelter; what to know and expect once you're at the shelter, and finally, how to prepare your home and set your expectations once your new best friend comes home.

3wWorking with Chester has been such a meaningful experience. His foster family’s dedication to his growth, even knowing he’s not with them permanently, is truly inspiring. It’s not just about training—it’s about giving him a real chance at a better future. I’m grateful to be part of this journey and can’t wait to see the transformation in Chester as we continue to work together.
