A reminder for 2025 I know having a team is the end goal, and that's great that you're looking for support to help move your vision forward , but while you're waiting for that to happen, don't forget that in some seasons, it may just be you and God building. Now, that's not to say that He won't *ever* send you a team, but don't let that be the reason that you delay the vision You may have to go ahead and launch the podcast without a team. You may have to go ahead and plan the event without a team. You may have to go ahead and create the course without a team. You may have to go ahead and release the book without a team. Thankfully, when God gives us a vision, He already knows exactly *what* we need, and *when* we need it . So if you ever find yourself feeling stuck, just know that you already have everything you need to move forward Don't be afraid to roll up your sleeves and do the work. You and God can get a lot more accomplished than you think. And P.S. Help IS on the way. Just make sure you're working while you wait.

As we step into 2025, I’ve been reflecting on a powerful reminder from Strange Loop that has stuck with me since I first heard it two weeks ago on a podcast: The Only Way to Do the Thing… Is to Do the Thing Preparing to do the thing isn’t doing the thing. Scheduling time to do the thing isn’t doing the thing. Making a to-do list for the thing isn’t doing the thing. Telling people you’re going to do the thing isn’t doing the thing. Messaging friends about the thing isn’t doing the thing. Writing a banger post about doing the thing isn’t doing the thing. Fantasizing about accolades isn’t doing the thing. Reading about how to do the thing—or how others did it—isn’t doing the thing. The only way to actually do the thing? Do the thing. I'm a little nervous about sharing this one. 😅 We're halfway through the year already (crazy, right?). Remember those goals you set at the beginning of the year? Maybe your resolutions? But I wanted to look back at the first six months of the year to see how I was doing compared to 2023. This week, I published my 2024 Mid-Year Review. I'm giving you full transparency into my revenue and expensive numbers, how those compare to 2023, AND the progress I've made on my goals so far. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday! It’s a time to give thanks, connect with loved ones, and, of course, enjoy all the carbs. For me, it’s also become something even more meaningful.    Last year, my family started a new tradition: our “Shah Family Annual Forum”. (If you know me, you're not surprised I would do something like this!) It’s our opportunity to reflect on what we’ve accomplished, dream big for the year ahead, and offer each other encouragement through challenges.    This year, our theme is "One thing", which is about focusing on what truly matters. Realizing the Double Win (winning at work and home) is deeply important to me. A favorite podcast introduced me to the topic, aptly called the Double Win with Michael and Megan Hyatt. At the end of each episode they ask their guest how they know if they are achieving the double win. Smart question to ask - and to reflect on ourselves. I’ve spent some time considering this for myself and came up with the following: - I feel connected spiritually - Sean gets my best self, not an over-tired or anxious version - I experience more moments of lightheartedness & playfulness with the girls - My work calendar includes margin and plays to my strengths - I move my body more days than not While there may be other indicators, I think these can serve as emergency lights in my double win dashboard. Last night, Jenny may have had her best idea yet. We were talking to Stephen Loguidice at the RockWater Industries / OWM event (which was great BTW). And we got to talking about the trajectory Smooth has taken since we started it. Year 1: We were delusional. Year 2: We ate shit. Year 3: We figured things out. Jenny’s idea? A podcast about the year we ate shit. The year everyone building a business eats shit. No glorified stories about the lessons you learned in doing things that don’t scale or the cliches about how struggles taught you something. No fluff. No congratulating yourself. Just the literal dumbest shit you did in your version of year 2. Tell everyone about your worst calls and log off. One part of my conversation with David Sealey that really resonated with me was when he highlighted the art of being a good listener. It’s a skill that’s often underestimated but is absolutely vital—not just at the board level, but across all areas of business. Being truly present in conversations and taking the time to understand responses to questions like "Why is this important?" or "Can you elaborate on what you mean by that?" can lead to deeper insights and more meaningful business decisions. This approach ensures alignment, clarity, and better collaboration. On the flip side, we’ve all encountered situations where someone—perhaps a closed-minded colleague—hears something they don’t like and immediately tunes out. This shuts down productive dialogue and disrupts the flow of ideas. The takeaway? Stay open-minded, be fully present, and really listen. You’ll be amazed at the difference it can make in outcomes.
