𝗘𝗨𝗥𝗢𝗣𝗘𝗔𝗡 𝗖𝗢𝗥𝗘 𝗣𝗥𝗜𝗢𝗥𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗘𝗦 - 𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗳𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝘆𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗲𝘁 I watched this video below (Press conference by President von der Leyen on the next College of Commissioners) and found it highly interesting to see how Mrs. President introduced the new commissioners by breaking away from the usual siloed mentality regarding professional background and gender. It was amuzing to see people struggling to grasp how individuals, despite being highly educated and experienced, were offered roles "outside their field." This felt so relevant to polymathy! Kudos to Ursula von der Leyen for pushing this shift in mindset! The transition to a polymath approach is happening. So, what is exactly happening? 𝟭) 𝗖𝗵𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻-𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀: The selection of Europen Commissioners was not solely based on professional backgrounds but focused on their ability to manage in a global context while prioritizing European interests. This approach ensures that the team is equipped to handle issues with a strong emphasis on Europe’s collective perspective. 𝟮)𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗼𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗶𝗹𝗼𝗲𝗱 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴: Many portfolios within the European Commission are highly interconnected, and the traditional siloed mentality must be abandoned. The Commission’s work is structured around core priorities such as prosperity, security, and democracy, all underpinned by the need for competitiveness in the face of transitions like decarbonization and digitalization. A more fluid and coordinated approach is necessary, reflecting the interdependent nature of modern challenges. Von der Leyen emphasized the need for cooperation among commissioners, as issues like security, the economy, climate, and people are all interconnected. 💡 Quote: "As I said a main principle is coordination because reality you cannot put reality in little boxes and separate the different topics from each other. In reality everything is intertwined and interelated and therefore all the Commissioners all the Executive Vice Presidents have to work very closely together and of course they are in all the aspects overlaps depending on from which angle you look at".  These ideas capture the broader strategic direction and structural changes introduced under von der Leyen’s leadership.
