Self-promotion isn't just off-putting. It's ineffective. The worst person to sing your praises is very often you. (There’s a difference between promoting yourself and promoting your work. I’m all for sharing your ideas—just not boasting about how amazing you are) #WorkIn60Seconds with GZERO Media

I strongly disagree. I see nothing wrong with promoting oneself. Why do you promote your books? Why don't you sit back and allow others to do it for you even though they don't know what's inside at first? How do you call what you do to get people attracted to your work? Isn't it self promotion? The reason is just simply. No one will know the essence of your book, unless you promote it as you always have done. Moreover, you may have all the necessary skills and competencies required to help a struggling company, if you don't promote yourself, no company would be attracted to you. Take me for example, I'm live in Liberia, a third World country and a company in the US needs an HR to manage its HR department. Even though I do have all the needed skills, attitude, and competencies to perform such tasks, but I'm not on social media platforms that help me sell or promote myself. Will that company take me serious when I applied? I say no. No company would want to take big risk and hire you if you don't promote yourself. Will people be able to recommend me to the above company if I keep silent and don't promote myself? Absolutely no! I will have to sell myself to win big. However, I really do enjoy your thoughts.

Self promotion seems to be the mainstay of both LinkedIn and workplace messages. Every day I wake up to carefully crafted appreciation posts meant to promote no one else but the one posting it :) maybe a bit old school but we should probably let the bat do the talking?

Alot of good info here. Take the good with the bad. Find the balance and adjust as needed, too much and too little are both consequences.

So what happens when you're in a room where everyone is promoting themselves, what do you do? Cower? I think context is very important! Mumbi Githuku Annstella thoughts?

thank you.  and still it seems the self promoters get the lions' share of space in our algorithmic feed, sucking all the oxygen out for everyone else.  (kind of like life, eh?)

I am curious about how to locate 'influencer' marketing in relation to this piece ...
