KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN “ELECTRONIC SIGNATURE” AND A TRUE DIGITAL SIGNATURE.
Be careful when you use an online signing service. There is a big difference between an “electronic signature” and a true digital signature.
Both “electronic signatures” and true digital signatures use the same AC technology, where a “hash” of your file is encrypted using the private number in a pair of mathematically related large numbers. That pair of large numbers should be bound to you and no one else, which calls for an enrollment process. The pair of numbers is your secure identity credential.
You haven’t heard much about true digital signatures because they pose a problem for Silibandia. Silibandia’s business model calls for its participants to accumulate and sell their personal information. Still, when you have that private number on your device, you are in control of the use of information about yourself. Silibandia doesn’t like that.
To accommodate Silibandia and to eliminate the cost of enrollment, vendors of “electronic signatures” rent you one of those number pairs to use in the signing, then use the same number pair identity credential for the next person to come along. You can see why such a practice can lead to trouble.
Always look for a “digital signature” or “true digital signature” before using a signing service. That’s one way to ensure the validity of the signature and take a big step toward regaining control of your personal information from Silibandia.
