As medical physicists the first concern of us is the safety of the patient from the radiation exposure and also protect ourselves from the radiations . The three principles of Radiation protection: --> justification --> optimization --> Dose limits justification: the radiation exposure is in such a way that the benefits of the exposure overweigh the harm from exposure optimization: it involves the ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable ) and AHASA( as high as safely achievable) principle . Dose limit - the exposure should be with in the dose limits prescribed by the AERB Or ICRP

A common assumption in facilities using ionizing radiation sources is that the existing shielding and/or the distance to occupied areas are in compliance with state and federal regulations for radiation dose limits for the public. But that may not be the case. In this article, you’ll learn what public dose is, how to measure it, and the regulatory bodies who ensure compliance. Ionizing radiation is utilized for different purposes in medical procedures and a wide range of industrial applications. Due to the big variation in radiation properties, it is hard to find just one instrument that would be ideal for every measurement situation. It can be costly, but also cumbersome to learn, maintain and handle many different meters. Join the webinar: "RaySafe 452, One Device – Endless Possibilities!" on Tuesday, July 9th at 10:00 AM CEST and see how RaySafe 452 can handle different types of radiation, as well as different energies, making it an ideal multi-purpose choice for your radiation measurements. This webinar is eligible for 1.0 ACI credit. Sign up here ---> https://lnkd.in/de4etZyS #micom #raysafe #radiationdetection #radiationmeasurement #radiationsafety #measuringinstruments

According to the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP), the three fundamental principles for radiological protection are: 1. Justification: Any decision that alters the radiation exposure situation should do more good than harm. This means that the benefits of the activity that causes the exposure should outweigh the associated radiation risks. 2. Optimization of Protection: The likelihood of incurring exposure, the number of people exposed, and the magnitude of their individual doses should all be kept as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA), taking into account economic and societal factors. 3. Dose Limitation: The total dose to any individual from regulated sources in planned exposure situations, other than medical exposure of patients, should not exceed the appropriate limits recommended by the ICRP. These three principles - justification, optimization, and dose limitation - form the foundation of the ICRP's recommendations for ensuring the safe use of ionizing radiation in various applications.
