Happy hour is back under new management. Some say the holidays are the happiest time of year. And, for restaurants, they hope it is for them as well given the Grinch that's been on their back since the pandemic. It's the season of happy hours, which frankly has been missing in action since many of us seek more balance between work and personal life. Happy hour is back, but with some changes. Even before the holidays, you probably noticed restaurants and local watering holes offering early bird happy hours sometimes beginning at 3pm, well, at least in my neighborhood. So, it's par for the course that they're also expanding those happy hours by offering special menus and cocktails to get customers back and in a jolly mood. Things are a little different now. More people these days are willing to ditch get-togethers or skip the after-work meetup in search of more time with family and friends on our terms. While more are opening to meeting up again, they're doing it with balance in mind. The other big shift is our relationship with alcohol. More people are cutting back on alcohol for health reasons, but also for social reasons. There are plenty of horror stories about office holiday parties gone awry because of alcohol, and no one wants to be part of any lore. Cheers, we're becoming Sam Malone and relying less on alcohol to have fun. Restaurants and bars are responding with more non-alcoholic beverages and mocktails not only because it's what patrons want, but also good business.
