Hello everyone! In light of the recent events in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, I wanted to share how you can contribute to search and rescue efforts — something applicable to disaster situations worldwide. 🌍 Access to high-quality map data is crucial for rescue workers. While many of us rely on #GoogleMaps for everyday navigation, rescue teams often turn to #OpenStreetMap (OSM). This open-source map, maintained by volunteers globally, can be more detailed than commercial maps in certain regions. Notably, organizations like the German postal service and DHL have adopted OSM for its comprehensive and reliable data. One of OSM’s significant advantages is its adaptability. Rescue workers can load OSM onto handheld GPS devices, which is not feasible with Google or Apple Maps due to their restrictive licensing and costs. Additionally, OSM is free, making it accessible to all. You can make a difference by contributing to OSM from your own home. Even minor updates can have a significant impact.
