The international conference on liver disease, a common noncommunicable disease #NCD, combined cutting-edge clinical, molecular, epidemiology and #HealthLiteracyDevelopment research and practice. One of my take-home messages is that to ensure no one is left behind and reproducible interventions are developed and implemented, we must use the 3 WHO levels of health literacy thinking: Individual, community and health literacy responsiveness of organisations. When applied with the Optimising Health Literacy and Access (Ophelia) process, system-wide impacts can be achieved. Many thanks to Prof Arun Sanyal, Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, Richmond, Virginia, USA and Dr Hannah Lee. What does it mean to say, “PhD applications are a numbers game”? Hear the numbers from the program chair at #JohnsHopkins The first female chair of the Department of Epidemiology, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, highlights that…………………. Each year, most programs receive an overwhelming number of applications from highly qualified candidates, yet only a limited number of slots are available. As a result, many talented individuals receive rejections, not because they lack potential but because of the sheer competition. If you face a setback, remember it does not reflect your capabilities. Stay determined, keep improving your application, and have faith in your journey—resilience often makes all the difference. #phD #academia

At #EMPHNETs8th Conference: I’m joining a roundtable on strengthening multi-sectoral coordination and capacities. To move from theory to practice, we need enhanced coordination and cooperation, similar to efforts shown during the pandemic. Media and cross-sectoral communication must play a larger role, while adapting to regional and country-specific variations. Let’s also apply the lessons of One Health and draw from epidemiology and social sciences for effective implementation. 🌍 Excited to share my latest publication led by my amazing teammates Prof. Frank Baiden from Ghana and Isaac Chun Hai Fung and Professor Gerardo Chowell from the US ! By examining social interactions—who we meet, where, and for how long—we can better model disease transmission and design effective public health interventions. These insights are vital not only for respiratory diseases such as COVID-19, influenza, and RSV 🌟 but also for emerging zoonotic threats like Mpox. 🐾🤝 Countries in West Africa need to strengthen their ability to predict and respond swiftly to disease outbreaks. Collecting empirical contact matrix data from communities is essential for creating mathematical models that accurately represent local realities. These models are crucial for guiding decision-makers in designing effective interventions, such as vaccine campaigns. Currently, the lack of such data forces reliance on information from outside the region, which can lead to inaccurate and misleading conclusions. Addressing this gap is an urgent priority. This collaboration highlights the value of global partnerships in tackling both regional and global health challenges. By working together, we aim to generate the data needed to inform better health strategies and outcomes. 💡 #GlobalHealth #Mpox #RespiratoryInfections #Epidemiology #WestAfrica #Influenza #COVID-19 See the link here: https://lnkd.in/g9Whjtkx 📄
