Yesterday I got to hug a horse (a real one, not the one in the photo AKA my dad circa 1978) and it made my day. And helped me discover the overlap between the learning potentials of equine assisted learning and applied improv. I accompanied a friend and his daughter to the Little Oasis Equine Therapy centre in Casino, BC. As we walked alongside Kip, the horse taking Mika on her weekly ride, the owner started explaining how they use equine work with at risk groups, corporate teams and couples on date nights. Their focus on how you approach the horse, communicate with the horse, ask the horse, thank the horse and, more than anything, your intention towards the horse was fascinating and familiar. As we chatted we found the crossover in our methods of helping teams be more creative, listen to each other, collaborate and overcome their fears. We noted the lightbulb moments that both a horse and an improv exercise can provide. Often the same lightbulb moment as it turns out. And at the end Kip let me hug him and give him chin scratches. And then followed after me and nudged me for more when I moved away. What could I do but say yes, and give him some more! If you want to help your team connect, collaborate and communicate more effectively check either of us out https://lnkd.in/gTVhKXWs https://lnkd.in/gimztWXG #appliedimprovisation #equineassistedlearning #teambuilding #connection #collaboration #communication

One of the things I love that often happens during an Equine Assisted coaching session, is when a person gains clarity, and the confidence to take action on something they've been wanting to do. If you have ever wanted to learn how to work with others while partnering with horses, this is the perfect time for you to take action! Our next course begins August 7, 2024 https://lnkd.in/gpYiw2u2

What are the traits of a successful Equine Assisted Coach? Here's one with a link to an article highlighting several more.
In equine assisted coaching, the ability to observe, analyze, and interpret a wide range of cues is essential. Equine assisted coaching aims to promote personal development and self-awareness. Observational skills assist coaches in identifying patterns and issues in clients' interactions with horses, which can be linked to broader life challenges. This understanding can lead to meaningful personal growth. I often get asked, "why horses?" Feedback from a recent equine experiential team building workshops says it better than I can.... "Thinking about the way the horses were interacting with each other put me in a more empathetic frame of mind. Watching their relationships from the outside made me respect some horses while feeling bad for others, and having the horses to focus on to get to that place versus my personal biases about our workplace dynamics helped me be more open minded toward the experiences of my co-workers." What is Sentience? Sentience is the capacity to feel, perceive, and experience subjectively. At The Freedom Way®, we deeply believe that horses are sentient beings, possessing emotions, awareness, and the ability to form meaningful connections with humans. This belief is revolutionizing the equine assisted coaching industry by acknowledging and respecting the horse as an active, empathetic participant in the coaching process. By recognizing their sentience, we foster a more authentic, impactful, and respectful partnership between coach, client, and horse. In our Equine Assisted Coach Training Program, this emphasis on horse sentience is paramount. We teach our coaches to honor and understand the horse's emotions and signals, creating a richer and more effective coaching experience for everyone involved. Discover the profound impact of working with sentient equine partners as an Equine Assisted Coach.
