💡 Did You Know? Industrial control panels—used in factories, power plants, and other industrial settings—play a crucial role in ensuring safe and reliable operations. For equipment like this, compliance with standards like UL 508A and CSA C22.2 NO. 286 isn’t just a formality; it’s the key to safety, efficiency, and long-term reliability. Unit Verification is an ideal approval process for limited quantities of already installed or custom-built panels. A representative sample can be fully tested at one of our labs and additional, identical units labelled onsite, offering manufacturers flexibility and providing them with confidence that their panels meet the requirements of U.S. National Electrical Code (NEC) and Canadian Electrical Code (CEC). Through our partnerships, we can also provide manufactures in Taiwan and South Korea with local Unit Verifications for Control Panels, reducing both turnaround times and costs. Routine Electrical Test of 120 kN UBL120 Insulators According to IEC 60383 In the production of electrical equipment for high-voltage overhead lines, IEC 60383 plays a critical role in evaluating the performance and safety of insulators. One essential test in this standard is the routine electrical test, also applied to ceramic or glass insulators like the 120 kN UBL120 model. 🔹 In this test, insulators are tested using metal electrodes, rather than submersion in water, provided that the electric stress in the glass or ceramic is not reduced. Voltage is directly applied to the electrodes to ensure complete coverage of each insulator and precise control of electric stress. 🔹 Depending on the type of voltage, the test may be conducted at power frequency (for 3 to 5 minutes) or high frequency (between 100 kHz and 500 kHz, for a minimum of 3 seconds) and should be high enough to produce intermittent or continuous flashover. (A voltage of 60 kV is applied in this test) 🔹 The primary goal of this test is to identify and eliminate insulators that may puncture during testing, ensuring the safety and durability of the product in operational conditions. This standard and its rigorous tests guarantee the quality and reliability of insulators produced for high-voltage applications. The moving and static contacts are crucial components in an Air Circuit Breaker (ACB), serving several important functions: Current Conduction: Together, they form the pathway for electrical current. The moving contact connects to the movable part, while the static contact is fixed to the breaker’s housing, allowing current to flow when the switch is closed. Switching Functionality: The movement of the moving contact enables the ACB to turn the circuit on and off. Mechanical mechanisms allow it to switch between contact and disconnection states, controlling current flow. Protection: In cases of overload or short circuits, the design of these contacts ensures quick interruption of current, protecting the circuit and equipment from damage. Durability and Reliability: The materials and construction of the contacts directly impact the ACB's durability and performance. High-quality materials and design enhance contact stability, reduce resistance, and extend lifespan. Fault Indication: In some designs, changes in the positions of the contacts can serve as fault indicators, helping maintenance personnel quickly identify and resolve issues. Overall, moving and static contacts are essential not just for current conduction but also for the protection and control of electrical systems. The National Electric Code of India 2023 establishes IEC 61439 as the key reference standard for Distribution Boards. This means that all panels entering Buildings or Industrial premises must undergo testing according to the relevant section of IEC 61439. While Industries have embraced IEC 61439 tested panels, Building customers are still catching up. Many residential/commercial substations already feature IEC 61439 tested switchboards. However, full compliance requires MCB distribution boards to also undergo testing to this standard. Several OEMs offer DBs compliant with IEC 61439-3, ensuring safety. Always verify compliance with IEC 61439 before purchasing an enclosure to guarantee a higher safety standard compared to non-tested enclosures. #DistributionEnclosures #ElectricalSafety

🔥 Discover the Fundamental Testing Standards for Electrical and Optical Fibre Cables! 🔥 Did you know that electrical and optical fibre cables undergo rigorous fire testing to ensure safety and compliance with international standards? 📜 IEC 60332 Parts 1 & 2 (EN 60332-1&2) — These standards play a vital role in cable fire testing. EN 60332-2-2 specifically evaluates the flame propagation of a single cable, measuring the flame spread as it ascends the burning cable during the test. On the other hand, EN 60332-1-2 assesses the degree of black smoke formation and the flame spread along the cable. 🏢 EN 13501-6 - This European Norm introduces a fire classification method for construction products and building elements. It relies on reaction-to-fire tests conducted on power, control, and communication cables. 🔍 Understanding EN 60332-1-2 Results - The results of EN 60332-1-2 are essential for classifying the Reaction to Fire for electric cables, following EN 13501-6. 🌍 Compliance in the #MiddleEast, North #Africa, and #India Sub-Continent - Building codes and regulations set by the various Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) in these regions mandate testing and certification of electric and optical fibre cables when used in building safety systems. At ESL, we prioritise safety and sustainability for a better future. Our comprehensive testing and certification services ensure that electric and optical fibre cables meet the highest fire safety standards. - IEC Standards for low voltage switchboards :- The IEC standard for electrical panels “Assemblies of protection and low voltage switching devices” is EN 61439-1 (CEI 17-113) which replaced the old 60439-1 and applies to any type of low voltage switchgear, regardless of size and shape (classical power panels, busbar ducts, building boards, etc.).. For this kind of switchgear, the nominal voltage must not exceed 1000 V in alternating current and 1500 V in direct current. - How should the electrical panels according to the IEC ? Based on their installation and location, the electrical panels can be fixed, movable and transportable, open, indoor or outdoor, while depending on their function they can be control, distribution, generation, transformation and regulation. Our control panels comply with IEC EN 61439-1 and IEC EN 60204-1 “Safety of machinery. Electrical equipment of machines. General rules”. To the realization of the finished framework only one subject assumes all responsibility for compliance with the regulations in force, ie the manufacturer, whose name must also be reported on a plate attached to the electrical panel itself. #LV_DistributionPanels #LV_Switchgears #LVPanels_Standard
