Divergent thinkers are the innovators who impact the world. If you have ADHD you are naturally a divergent thinker, you see multiple new ways to solve existing problems. To harness these skill our brains need constraints, values constrain choice based on importance.

Earlier today I gave a vulnerable presentation about children's grief-processing with the lens of cognitive behavioral therapy. The audience was a lovely small group who cares about play and education personally and professionally. Sharing with my extended network in case it resonates with others! There are two examples of grief-processing shared in the presentation from my own life when I helped my son (from age 2 to 10) cope with: (1) the loss of favorite toys and play-spaces during multiple relocations (2) the loss of a loving grandparent While the grieving experienced in both the situations are at different scales, in working with my therapist I realized how CBT techniques can be adapted to various ages and contexts with thoughtful revisions. Would love to learn how you've helped a child in your life, with their grief-processing! Polina Lulu, a fellow immigrant mama bear and play expert, has experienced similar emotions as a parent. We're considering offering a "therapy-informed play" workshop! Let us know if this interests you and the children in your life :) #playbasedlearning #learningexperiencedesign #earlychildhoodeducation

Please can we start with "diagnosis by elimination" ? Check basics such as: * does the person have retained primitive reflexes? * does the person have a sound processing disorder? * does the person have a visual processing issue? * Does the person habitually breathe through their mouth? * What is the person's diet like? * Exercise ? * Time online ? And so on... resolve all of the above issues and reassess. Could there be anything else triggering hyper-active behaviour? #motorsensoryintegration #cognition #skillsforlife #soundprocessing #vision #motorskills #behaviour #mentalhealth https://lnkd.in/dVaC6KpN

I deeply relate to the experience of loss, having lost very close family members and friends who were dear to me. Although grief has no set time for healing, I believe that time plays an important role in helping us adjust. The pain and sadness of my losses were intense, but the passing of time helped me to manage the situation and adjust to life without my loved ones. A few years ago, we lost our first pet Psalty, and my son grieved for a couple of days. He cried and became withdrawn, he even refused to eat or play. Particularly for children, their understanding of grief varies by age, developmental stage and personal experience, which shapes how they process grief. To help children process and cope with grief, parents can try a combination of the following strategies: - Understand developmental differences - Children 2-6 years may not fully understand the permanence of a loss, it may be confusing to them and they are likely to ask series of questions. To these young ones, use clear words and terms - Say “died” instead of “passed”. You can encourage them to share their feelings as a drawing or stories. This will help you understand their thought process and give you some sense of how to help them navigate the stressful situation. - Provide honest age-appropriate information and share the truth about what happened. Avoid overloading their brain with too much details though. - Encourage the expression of feelings. - Let them know it is ok to be sad, angry or confused sometimes, but please, provide a safe and supportive environment. - Be readily available to love, support and provide a sense of security to them. Sonia Tiwari I'm excited and curious about the upcoming "therapy-informed play" workshop. I believe it will offer valuable tools and insights for supporting children through loss and other challenging experiences.

Did I get it right? You might be thinking… but Natalie didn’t you get diagnosed at 7 🤷♀️ Yes, but I also realised ADHD was at play at 28 and then ALL of these emotions flooded in. (I’m only self diagnosed cos I'm currently on the NHS waiting lists and not willing to pay privately). But more than that, so many of the people we help are in exactly this position. They have the diagnosis and then what?! These are the questions we help answer: 📌 How do you deal with the emotions that are arising from this new information? 📌 How do you learn what systems work? How do you figure out what you need? 📌 HOW on earth do you figure out the good things about neurodiversity? After years of struggles It’s a minefield, one that we have already navigated for you. To give you the answers quickly and ensure you aren’t struggling alone. That is why I love 1:1 coaching. Its a place where you get the answers and solutions quicker because you can learn from those who have been there before. If you want to unpick all of the emotions and confusion of what works and what doesn't. While also figuring out how Dyslexia could be a good thing in your life. Then I would love to work with you, I currently have a few spaces available for 1:1 coaching. Which you get the details here: https://lnkd.in/dPZjwztK #dyslexic #dyslexia #dyselxicthinking #dyslexiaawareness

💡 Unlocking potential with the Genius Finder: A focus on positive assessments highlighting strengths and guiding growth.💡 A positive assessment, particularly in the context of Genius Within, is a strengths-based evaluation designed to help individuals understand their unique abilities, skills, and potential. Unlike traditional assessments that may focus on diagnosing deficits or challenges, a positive assessment reframes the conversation around personal strengths, highlighting areas where someone excels and offering strategies to leverage those strengths effectively. The Power of a Positive Assessment👍 For years, I moved through life without truly understanding my own neurodivergence. Growing up with undiagnosed Tourette’s, ADHD, and autism felt like a constant struggle to fit into a world that didn’t see the real me. A positive assessment highlighted strengths I’d never fully recognised and helped me embrace who I am. For example, creative problem-solving🔎I’ve always been able to think outside the box, but I used to see this as chaotic or scattered thinking. The Genius Finder showed me that my ability to connect ideas and approach challenges from unique angles is a valuable asset. Another example is hyperfocus on passions💪 While my ADHD made focusing on mundane tasks difficult, the assessment revealed how deeply I can immerse myself in areas that truly interest me. This hyperfocus has become a strength in areas like advocacy, creative projects, and problem-solving. Today, I’m committed to advocating for a world where everyone can access the understanding and acceptance that come from seeing themselves clearly. You can read about the assessment services that Genius Within offer here➡️ https://lnkd.in/dsPQ_Gbr Or, if you have had an assessment and are looking for something to help you further under your strengths and put some quick and easily implementable strategies in place, visit geniusfinder.com 🧠 #PositiveAssessment #StrengthBasedApproach #Neurodiversity #SelfDiscovery #TouretteSyndrome #GeniusFinder #Neurodiversity #SocialMediaTakeover

A cognitive disability, also known as cognitive impairment or neurodevelopmental disorder, affects an individual's ability to process, understand, and respond to information. It can impact: 🔷 Memory (learning, retention, recall) 🔷 Attention (focus, concentration) 🔷 Processing Speed (executing tasks) 🔷 Executive Functions (planning, organization, decision-making) 🔷 Language (understanding, expression) 🔷 Problem-Solving (reasoning, judgment) 🔷 Learning (acquiring new skills) Keep in mind that there are conditions (such as ADHD) that can impact cognitive functions, rather than 'types of cognitive disabilities.' #learnspecialeducationwithrelis #relisconsultants #teachingwithpurpose #EmpoweringMinds #reliscares

2wADHD Works The notion of redefining self-worth, particularly for neurodivergent individuals, invites us to consider a more nuanced understanding of value beyond societal expectations. It is important for NDs to focus on personal efforts and intrinsic qualities rather than the external benchmarks often set by society. In this way, traditional metrics of success—such as productivity or conformity—we realize that they may not capture the unique strengths and contributions of neurodivergent individuals. Emphasizing your own definition of success can empower you to embrace your identities, skills, and passions without the pressure of conforming to societal norms. This shift in focus not only enhances personal fulfillment but allows you to celebrate your diverse way of thinking and being.
