Woke up to news of the bridge collapse tragedy in Baltimore... It seems strange to me that the container ship which caused the collapse, suffered multiple power losses just before *steering directly* into and striking a primary support column of the bridge. It's still too early to make a call on this until the full investigation is completed, but to me this feels like a cyber-attack that's gone "kinetic" - i.e. a cyber-physical attack. How secure are Maersk's navigation and control systems? It's not the first time ships like this have been attacked this way, is it? Are the gloves coming off now in our 5th generation war vs. our geopolitical adversaries? Perhaps an unwritten line was crossed, recently, somewhere? Too early to say, but that's what it feels like to me. People have died, and the 9th busiest port in the U.S. is now shut down for the foreseeable future. [Edited to Add: As I learn more about the situation from people more familiar than I am with how ships work, it is becoming more clear that this may in fact be just a case of poor maintenance. That said, I will continue to withhold judgement until all the facts come to light, despite the fact that I've been attacked down to the ad-hominem level on this platform for daring to post a heavily-disclaimed opinion.]

I would like to share a glimpse of an impactful documentary I recently participated in – "Built to Last: Buyer Beware." The documentary is a powerful call to action, spotlighting the urgent need for durable and safe housing in the face of escalating climate threats and challenges in the property insurance marketplace. "Built to Last: Buyer Beware." isn't just a documentary; it's a movement aimed at empowering people with the knowledge and tools to demand more than just a house, but a home that withstands the test of time and nature. It examines the property insurance and construction sectors, revealing critical flaws and urging significant reforms to protect our homes and communities. As someone deeply invested in advocating for policyholder rights and ensuring that insurance fulfills its promise of security, I found the documentary's exploration of the property insurance industry and its interactions with building standards particularly resonant. It underscores the necessity for transparency, accountability, and higher standards across the board. The mission is to ensure that every home is "Built to Last." It is time to demand more from our insurance companies, builders, and policymakers. It's time for action and time for a change. Watch the trailer and join the conversation. #BuiltToLast #InsuranceReform #SustainableHousing

This post highlights, among other recent news, the crucial role and significance of employing local pilots and tugboat services. It underscores how integral these professionals are to the maritime industry, emphasizing the value of local expertise in ensuring safe and efficient navigation. Their knowledge of local waters contributes significantly to the success of maritime operations. Well done!!!
I like to brag on our folks when they do special things. On the evening of March 26th, the efforts of the crews on our Capt Joseph Bisso, Becky S and Alma S averted a major disaster when they grabbed and flipped around the MV Thunderbird (750' long with 46' draft), which had lost power downbound, barely avoiding slamming into the MV Anglo Marie Louise, which was tied up and loading at Convent Marine Terminal. Great job by our mariners!

Out on the high seas, container ships aren't just dodging waves—they're dodging pirates too! Since packing heat isn’t exactly an option, these floating fortresses get creative with non-lethal gadgets to keep their crews and cargo safe from ambitious buccaneers. 🏴☠️ 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐀𝐧𝐭𝐢-𝐏𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐲 𝐌𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬: 𝘓𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘙𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦 𝘈𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤 𝘋𝘦𝘷𝘪𝘤𝘦𝘴 (𝘓𝘙𝘈𝘋): Imagine a sound so loud and focused it could make pirates rethink their life choices. 𝘈𝘯𝘵𝘪-𝘉𝘰𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘛𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘞𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘴: Deployed overboard, these wires create obstacles that tangle up and slow down pirate boats. 𝘞𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘊𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘯𝘴: Forget Super Soakers—these high-pressure streams are the ultimate "back off" message, perfect for stopping boarding attempts. 𝘙𝘢𝘻𝘰𝘳 𝘸𝘪𝘳𝘦: The ship’s own spiky armor. These clever strategies show just how serious (and creative) the maritime industry is about staying safe and ahead of the game. Want to see them in action? Check out the video below!
